The advertising industry used to call this an Advertorial, now it's known as native marketing. All the same, it's an ad disguised as news. You pay the journalist to make it look like there's some crazy spike in traffic and the piper plays his pipe as the mice fall in line behind him to see what the hype is.

Seems, for the most part, only the most sensitive of bitchy redditors are trying to make Lemmy their new home.
$20 billion a year is not a "small amount"
Tons of their income comes from letting Google harvest your info rather than do it themselves. Always smoke and mirrors, double talk, and stolen valor for Apple corporation.
Definitely losing interest fast in this "reddit alternative". The politics subs are just as bad, if not worse, than Facebook and Twitter. The communities are just clones of subreddits, after the 3rd party / mod purge. The dumbass comment chains that stopped being funny 5 years ago. Clearly bots being used to influence social issues... Could go on but it's just more wasted bandwidth.
