Favorite D-pad? (kbin.social)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by zebus@kbin.social to c/sbcgaming@lemmy.ml

This is my number one thing I look for in a handheld so just wondering what models have stuck out to you guys.

I had a RG351P but couldn't stand the accidental diagonals so I moved on. Apparently there is a mod to fix it so might have to eventually go back and try that.

Next I got a RP2+, and I love the d-pad on this thing.

Oh yea I don't mind paying, I'm not on fiverr to be cheap lol. Maybe I need to take a deeper look, most people on fiverr I had trouble with if what I wanted them to make me was more complicated than like a one sentence description lol. So I've never successfully had web design done off it.

However for things that require little to no explaining like getting a portrait made it's been awesome.

Like say for example I wanted a cool icon for my kbin/lemmy community.

I used the Reddit forhire sub in the past but it seems less active nowadays.. plus it's Reddit..

And I've used fiverr before but it seems better suited for having a cool artwork made than for webdesign or something highly specific due to the language barrier.

A stand-alone media file renamer/organizer with a nice webui that supports hard links.

Since I automate my torrent downloads I basically use the arr suite for just renaming and organizing which kinda over complicates things.

Rofl, it's a hobby, you do it for fun, you shouldn't need to get paid. I also play tennis as a hobby and I love to talk to people about it without charging them money believe it or not. The fetishization with internet fame, views, and money is making gaming weird.

I mean back when I was more into gaming I would contribute. I didn't expect money, I just did it because I was fun. I feel like there's a big disconnect between the current generation and my generation that wrote 300 page guides on gamefaqs for the hell of it rofl.

The difference is the decreasing availability of alternatives.

I mean I would argue it's related, the reason behind it is $$$. Corporate interests have homogenized content and de-normalized diversity and community.

People who use to just post their excel sheets and research on some bb forum for free somewhere starting getting paid by icy veins or maxroll. Overtime they establish a monopoly on the content and can do whatever the hell they want.

Why make a platform that depends on the community and you get the ad views when you can adopt a business strategy that also gets you youtube and social media views while eliminating your competition.

And the youtube trend is just people trying to emulate the handful of people who managed to make it big off the twitch/youtube bag.

As someone who's not an auditory/visual learner I feel personally attacked by this. I skipped class and stayed home and read the book/notes for a reason.

Cause you gotta get dem "views". Don't forget to smash that subscribe button.

The format makes no sense for the information being consumed, it's like this for their benefit not the viewers.

Even the Maxroll build guides are like, oh yea go view our youtube video to get all the info.

Does everyone just think they can make a living playing games? Trying to search for Diablo 4 info gets you nothing but mountains of useless clickbait youtube videos. Gotta waste my time jumping thru the video just to find out the guy is dumber about the game than I am.

Like I get it, YouTube is the only place you can monetize your "game knowledge", but still.. Why are there are only like two sites with build guides and info? And those two sites don't even have community builds, its just a couple guides written by some l33t dude we are suppose to trust. Why is there no useful discussion forums, discords, or at least something not in video format? If people care about becoming gaming influencers so much why can't we at least come out with a new monetization platform that doesn't suck and has a dislike button.

Anyone else sharing my rage?

[–] zebus@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I just use an external wiki/pastebin and put links to it on my community sidebar and one pinned post.

Oh I get it, and I wasn't even blaming kbin, for all we know the issue is on lemmy's side, they have an open github issue for non-lemmy federation. I'm just saying the ecosystem as is relies on two separately developed platforms maintaining interoperability with each other.

HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray (kbin.social)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by zebus@kbin.social to c/kbinMeta@kbin.social

Imma start by prefacing that I like kbin way better so far.

But do you guys think they will continue to coexist long term or are we looking at an HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray scenario where only one will remain?

Just seems like they don’t play very nice. My lemmy community I created days ago still isn’t federating here. Furthermore it seems like kbin to lemmy federation is much slower and buggier than lemmy to lemmy and kbin to kbin federation.

Hard to sort by new bc sometimes lemmy posts are already off the first page by the time they federate. Sometimes stuff doesn’t federate at all. I’m almost to the point I feel like I need to have an account on each for browsing.

For the record I bought a HD-DVD player.

I agree, I wouldn’t use the always on feature, would just be for a specific project.

According to this chart I’m going to sound like a beta male if I don’t buy it.

I used to use flipboard, then once I got hooked on Reddit I got lazy and just started getting all my news from there.

Since this place is still getting its start thought I might go back to one to supplement me. Where you guys get your news?

If only there was a way to combine them.

New to all this, trying to understand the microblog section, seems like it's ideal for simpler discussion. But after replying to a guy in the Diablo microblog section, I noticed that he was actually on mastodon not kbin. So mastodon tags get autopulled into the microblog if the names match? If so does that mean that stuff you post also gets posted to the corresonding mastodon tag?
