Seriously, like the other comment says, if you were unconscious for hours, you are more than likely to have a concussion.

If you havent already, go see a doctor asap.

And if you don't want to tell your supervisor, just be vague and say something like "I had an accident" or "I had to go to the doctor". I don't know what its like where you live, but in Germany that would be approximately the expected level of detail (combined with a doctor's note if you're sick/absent for longer).

There is no faster plan.

The only alternative would be internet over 4G, which is supposed to be faster, but the mobile connection at home is so unreliable, it wouldn't be worth the added cost.

I live a couple of houses down a driveway, so laying a new cable is too expensive to justify for just a few houses. This means I get to live with a cable that's half a century old, and me and my neighbours (and others) are excluded from the recent local fiber internet initiative. Some neighbours just use Starlink, but my hatred of Elon and the sheer stupidity of using satelite internet in central Europe are stopping me.

And, while I do live in a small village, I also have friends in Düsseldorf and in Berlin with even worse internet connections.

I'd love to just switch to a faster plan. But mobile just doesn't work here, and I'm not giving money to Elon, so ... there is no faster plan.

No, you ~~under~~overestimate the internet speeds in some parts of Germany. I get maybe 11 Mbit/s on a good day, about 5-6 Mbit/s average, and less if anyone else in the house is using it. And yes, that's Mbit not MByte.

According to Wikipedia, the slowest Blu-Ray speed is 36 Mbit/s, so about six times my average download speed. And Blu-Rays can go up to 576 Mbit/s.

By brick, do you mean a powerbank? I used to have one in the old bag for a while, but it doesn't really fit (it fits in the bag, but it's a bit too thick, so it prevents you from putting any other slightly thicker things in without putting serious strain on the seams), and in my experience, I didn't end up actually needing it most of the time. I'm kinda trying a compromise with the charging cable, in the hopes that if I do have to charge my phone, I can find someone with a charger/powerbank/laptop/etc. (or use my own laptop) and don't need to figure out if they have the right cable.

Do you have any suggestions for a small/flat multitool? (my guess is, pretty much everyone in this community has their own suggestion for a multitool :) )

How big is the emergency blanket folded up?

Face mask is a good idea. I don't have any reusable ones, but I do have some single-use masks left over from COVID-times.

I honestly have no knowledge of sewing, so I think I'd have to learn that before a needle is useful, but I might see if I can find some safety pins.

I'm not sure about a lighter... I don't smoke, so it would only end up being used in the very rare case of having to light a fire, I think it might be too thick to fit properly, and I'm a bit uncertain about carrying something full of flammable fluid with me all the time.

This is my current setup, all contained within the crossbody bag on the left. I've had more or less the same stuff, in the same bag, for about three years before, but the zipper on the bag was breaking, so I replaced it. I decided that would be a good time to rethink what I'm carrying.

Currently, that is (clockwise from top left):

  • wallet
  • some spare cash, just in case
  • a microfiber cloth
  • lockpicks and a small box of lock pins (I have a practice lock that I often carry around in case I get bored)
  • bandaids
  • the bag is a Pacsafe GO Crossbody
  • glasses cleaning swabs
  • USB sticks (two with data, one with Ventoy and Linux ISOs)
  • USB C-to-C cable to charge my phone
  • a mechanical pencil
  • keys, on a chain

Now, I'm looking for suggestions as to what else to put in the bag. Its gotta be thin and flat if possible.

My ideas so far are an appropriately sized notebook and a thin pocketknife.

What do you think? Have you got any ideas/suggestions?

Get a universal remote, or if you want to be fancy about it (and can afford it) a Flipper Zero. Then you might be able to switch the screens off, or mess with their settings (if they're TVs and not just displays).

Technetium really should be purple. The isotope that you'd be most likely to get some of (used for nuclear medicine) has a half-life of about 6 hours, and is appropriately radioactive.

Well, in English, UTC is an acronym for Coordinated Universal Time, and in French its Temps Universel Coordonné.

Now you may have noticed that neither of those actually makes UTC. This comes from a previous naming pattern for universal time (UT1, UT2, ...) (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time ).

Holy shit, this is what it looked like!? I saw the wikipedia article posted recently, and was wondering if there where any pictures.

The article only specifies "makeshift composite armor plating", which made me think it was just some steel plates.

But no wonder over 200 rounds of ammunition and three explosions had no effect. No wonder they briefly considered using an airstrike or an anti-tank missile to stop it.

It also looks to me like he was always planning to die inside, I don't see any way to get the shell off again.

I'll preface this by saying that I have unfourtunately never really interacted with any media in the Alien franchise. Horror movies aren't really my thing.

But, recently, I have been playing RMC (Rouny's Marine Corps). It's a game that builds on the same engine as Space Station 14, and it's a remake of CM-SS13 (which builds on Space Station 13). RMC is a round based, multiplayer role playing game, where a group of marines fight a Xenonid infestation on a planet.

Afaik, it's more or less based on the Alien franchise, so I was wondering:

  • How many of you know about this? It's a fairly niche, open-source game, but then again Lemmy/PieFed is also quite niche.
  • What do you think about it?
  • Can I convince some of you to join in the fun? It's unlike any other game I've seen (except Space Station 14), and it's not an easy game to first get into (if you are interested, I seriously recommend watching some tutorials and possibly playing some Space Station 14 first).
