Edit: After reading the recommendations & arguments at arkenfox, I have opted to remove CookieAutoDelete as well as PrivacyBadger and CanvasBlocker. Instead I have:

• set Enhanced Tracking Protection to "Strict";
• setup uBlock Origin to level "medium";
• tweaked some extra about:config entries as recommended here and here, except for privacy.resistFingerprinting.

I'll also consider setting network.cookie.lifetimePolicy to 2 for having all cookies session-only (apart from whitelisted ones).

I observe a much faster loading of the pages now!

My preference is to immediately remove cookies from domains, as soon as (or just some seconds after) a tab with that domain is closed. Except some whitelisted domains specified by me.

To do this, I've used – for years – Cookie Autodelete. But I've discovered now that it doesn't work with Firefox's Strict Mode (the extension says "strict mode is not supported").

All in all I think my understanding of Firefox's capabilities and policies regarding cookies and similar extensions is outdated. I'd be grateful to anyone who can offer insights or links to well-informed sites about this.

I use invidious for youtube watching. and I set the resolution to 480p (because of my internet) I have noticed for sometime that the video looks more smooth and less pixel-y than before. but when I used video snapshot (which take a frame) and I saw that the frame that firefox saved to my drive is pixel-y and less smooth and not like the video it shows to me.

I even checked with screenshot (which take picture of screen and not a direct video frame extract) and I can see that it is smoothed.

what is happening?

could it be AMD ? could it be my desktop KDE doing something?

it is a bit hard to show it but I can clearly see that the video frame I extract is less smooth that the video shown.

Experimental feature but can be enabled in firefox stable in Settings, Firefox Labs, Tab notes under Productivity.

I found it really useful for when Im researching something and have lots of papers open in separate tabs. Though Im using it more like tab tags, since notes show up when you hover over tabs. It lets me see at a glance which specific topic a tab is related to if I forget.

What do you all think? I was kinda surprised how little discussion I have seen on this, considering that no other browser have something like it. Firefoxs implementation is pretty smart too, instead of just being a sticky notes widget in the browser (like the one in Vivaldi).

The experience is so bad lately while playing videos, some don't play at all and feels like the hardware encoding/decoding doesn't work. This don't happen on Chromium-based browsers.

Doesn't have to be on that particular section of the menu, but can I add commands/buttons willy-nilly somewhere on that menu?

Edit: I found out that the add-on warns about high CPU usage for some of its presets (Preferences->General->Presets). Using a different preset has removed that ~10% CPU usage.

Some preliminary context: Since one or two updates ago, I've noticed that Firefox is using around 10% CPU even then all tabs are unloaded. This didn't happen before. The add-ons I use are still the same, and I have blocked the new LLM functionality. (Maybe someone else noticed the same?) Anyway, in order to investigate, I'm switching off the add-ons one by one, as usually done, checking if the situation improves.

While doing so I was wondering whether I still need Canvas Blocker. I see its most recent reviews are 4 years old now. Does anyone know whether it's still needed for privacy, or if Firefox now provides some of the same functionality built-in? I do use AdBlock Origin as well.

I mainly use them to import things into musicbrainz but I'm wondering how else these are used to improve the browsing experience across the web?

I switched from chrome when ublock stopped working.

All was well for a while but in the past few weeks I’ve had increasing problems with Firefox not loading pages, and if I try the same url in chrome it loads no problem. This happens even with the VPN turned off.

Firefox also has like 3x as many processes as I have tabs open, and task manager fails to kill all of them.

Windows 11.

I could be blaming the wrong programs, who knows. Its getting painful.

Dark Reader is great with nearly everything except Google Sheets for some reason, which is why I seek an alternative:

1. Install and enable Dark Reader
2. Open Google Sheets and type some text in cells
3. It's also dark and illegible, but the font color is normal if Dark Reader is turned off for Google Sheets

This is unfortunately important because a massive amount of my work depends on Google Sheets. Other than this one issue, it works well with everything else.

Hi I use firefox on Linux and want to change to the first, second, third, ..., last tab with ctrl+1/2/3/.../9 instead of alt+1/2/3/.../9 because alt is already mapped to changing desktops. any idea how I could accompilish this?

edit1: I use mac and windows at work and there the shortcuts are ctrl+<number>. It would be so nice to have consistent shortcuts 🐧

How do I add the font Candara to Firefox's fonts? It has so few of the standard fonts. I'd love to get this on here, but I can't figure out how.

Hi, I came across a funny web browser rendering(?) issue.

There is a webpage (it's a certification exam preparation training site, but the content doesn't matter here). I have text on the screen, and when I mark it, some (formerly invisible) overlay text emerges and gets actually marked, instead of the text I see on the screen. The marked text seem to have a different font.

But what confuses me most about it, is that the original and the marked text are actually notably DIFFERENT STRINGS. 🤔

Note the words
"defines"- where the "f" seems to be a special character, that @Vivaldi renders as a box, @firefox doesn't render it at all.

"partner" - where there seems to be typo in the copy-text ("parner"), but not in the visible text.

To me that's a hint, that this isn't a rendering glitch, but something that was designed like this on purpose.

Can anyone explain to me what this is and/or what the intention behind it may be? I'm really curious...
