Adult Swim on the Green makes its return outside the San Diego Convention Center (5th Avenue Landing and Convention Way). Open Thursday, July 23 through Saturday, July 25 from 1–10 p.m. and Sunday, July 26 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Adult Swim on the Green will present special fan experiences and nighttime events (no badge required).

Anchoring the activation this year is the RAMbler, a one-of-a-kind Rick and Morty-themed twist on the classic Scrambler ride. Housed inside a custom dome and surrounded by original animation, music and immersive effects, fans will enter through a more-than-26-foot-tall Rick head before being transported into the chaotic universe of Rick and Morty.

The Green will also feature a lineup of all-new, custom-built experiences inspired by Adult Swim favorites: Explore the surreal world of Common Side Effects at an eight-foot-tall Marshall fountain; hop in the hot tub with the Campbell Boys for a hilariously absurd Ha Ha, You Clowns mini-golf challenge; test your skills in a President Curtis slingshot game featuring creatures from the upcoming series; and climb aboard a larger-than-life Mr. Boss attraction celebrating the Emmy-nominated hit Smiling Friends.

At this year’s Annecy Festival, Cartoon Brew sat down with Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen to discuss the network’s unusually creator-first approach to animation, why he thinks of Adult Swim as a record label rather than a traditional studio, and how the company has increasingly looked beyond the U.S. for new voices.

He also spoke with us about the evolution of the Adult Swim Smalls program, the challenges facing independent animators, and why Annecy has become an essential growth opportunity for the network.

In 2024, Dexter’s Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky pitched the President of Adult Swim an idea for a show live on stage at Annecy.

Last year, we revealed that the show, Heist Safari, was in development, and today we can tell you it has been greenlit, now titled Heist Brothers.

Described as a “high-octane animated action comedy,” Heist Brothers tells the story of three frog brothers who rob a bank.

The 10 x 15-minute series is now in production with Cartoon Network Studios.

At this year’s Annecy festival, Animation Magazine caught up with show-runners Joe Bennett and Steve Hely to chat about their next steps, plans for the future seasons of the Emmy-nominated show, and the state of adult animation.

Upcoming Adult Swim show "My Two Cars" follows Keith Asshole, an Ohioan who must make an absurdly difficult daily decision: choosing which of his two beloved vehicles, a PT Cruiser or a Mini-Cooper, to drive.

The My Adventures With Superman season 3 premiere will first air during Adult Swim's Toonami anime/action block on Saturday, June 13 at midnight ET/PT with a streaming release on HBO Max the next day.

Once again, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (June 21-27 | annecyfestival.com) is offering attendees a glimpse at the future of animation with a diverse lineup of Work in Progress presentations.

I’d like to get a copy of China, IL. So far I can only find it for purchase through Prime, but I prefer to self host my digital media. Torrents are oddly (but not really) a wash, so I’m definitely down to purchase physical media and rip it myself. Unfortunately I can’t find many reputable looking places that sell physical copies of the seasons, does anyone know of a trustworthy place I could find physical copies of China,IL?

On Friday, February 20, Adult Swim SMALLS will introduce a new three-part animated shorts series, Meeble & Creeble, introducing the strange adventures of two co-dependent 20-somethings desperately looking towards the spirits and stars for validation.

Adult Swim SMALLS features short form animated releases by up-and-coming creators from around the world. New shorts are released weekly on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel.
