Faark! Elec bill just under $800.

Not buying cheese this week.

Holy shit! Thats more than double mine and we ran the heater almost every day with basically 0 solar input.

Worth having a look at whats using all your juice. And that your power company is not sticking it to you. Ovo was cheapest last time I looked.

It’s the old as shit radiator. Consistent usage with last year, but price increase. One of the reasons for needing to move.

Would it work out cheaper to buy a couple of the $15 heaters from Kmart and plug them in each room you want heated? Might not be able to heat while rooms, but surely at those prices, it's better to use hearing to take the edge off, and using layers and savvy planning for the rest (ie only heat the rooms people are in, and try to concentrate everyone into as few places as practical)?

Don't. No. No anko stuff.

My anko heater from Kmart burst into flames last year. And it eats electricity like a fucking beast.

Anko, so hot right now. Anko.

I haven't had many issues with their heaters. Always get your electronics test and tagged yearly if you can, and make sure you keep the elements free of dust (use an air duster monthly to make sure nothing accumulates on the heating elements)

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Not worth the risk. They're shithouse. 🀚

Heaters are definitely something you don't want to FAFO with. I got lucky with an op shop find of a decent oil fin heater and then being gifted a nice DeLonghi wall mountable electric heater in almost new condition after my neighbour passed away...

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

I agree. Couple of those oil column heaters in the bedrooms, a knock off oodie and electric throw or 2 in the lounge room. Would be a fuckton cheaper.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago

Don’t know. Already only heat the central part of the house. Have a heater of our own too to actually move air. Wanted to be gone by March to avoid this!

I don't understand how your bill can be so high?

How big is your house and how many people in it? What kind of appliances do you have?

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Uninsulated 2bed, 2 people. Landlord specials.

[–] wscholermann@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

Even so....it does seem unreasonably high given the parameters. I wonder if the power company is doing an estimation rather than a proper read.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

And I was shocked at a $90 bill for the last month... But like you, usage consistent with previous years, just that costs have shot up.

Far out I'd die from a heart attack with that kind of bill.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

yeah ours is looking that way. I regret jack and shit, we've had the house to 20c all winter. I got fucking chillblains every year in teh old place, fuck. that. noise.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ha! Even with both heaters I could usually only get a section to 13 and fuck the rest. This house truely sucks.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 3 months ago

yeah did my time with that. I do not regret that aspect.
