What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.

Pretty sure that's a shot from "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once".

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

ok that is better, I thought these were all from the show and I was like.... am I missing something here. Thank you, I was.

Zero of the three images are from the movie in question. Even the one on the left is of Ryan Gosling's character in BR2049.

It's a tv miniseries, not a movie.

Probably because ‘@DiscussingFilm’ on twitter either doesn't have access to or there just aren’t any promo stills.

I wouldn't give this a whole lot of hope since this is Amazon. They managed to even make Wheel of Time OK at best.

"Ok at best" is generous...

Okay? OKAY? It was awful! Truly horrendous. What a terrible outcome for such a beloved book series. Their show runner should never be allowed to run anything except commercials after that.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

OK at the very best. Look, I am hurt, too, and I had wished for the series to exist for a long time. The only reason I said it was OK (in spots) was because at times it looked cool at times and there are people out there that care about that.

That show was an abortion of television. Robert Jordan is doing barrel rolls in his grave.

[–] CookieOfFortune@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Pretty sure that’s why you haven’t seen any Sanderson adaptations yet.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sanderson was doing his best to wash his hands of it when it was released. He publicly stated that his opinion was ignored, and that he won't do any TV or movies unless he's given more control. Imagine the hubris required to ignore the best living modern fantasy writer, a writer who actually worked with Jordan on the series, and wrote the last 2.5 books, and instead rewrite the script to just do your own thing. Truly mind boggling.

[–] CookieOfFortune@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I don’t know if their idea was to court people who haven’t read the books, but this just leads to alienation of book readers and they failed to create a good show to begin with.

That is likely the most award winning googly eye of all time
