Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)
Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.
Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc
(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

Relevant to note that every other bid comes from the same bidder, j_s_0e6b87. Here's what I'm guessing about them:
It's now edging up towards $2500!
It narrows it down to people from instances that still federated with Hexbear and have money to spend on this stupid shit.
Nah, there are plenty of people on unfederated instances who still obsess endlessly about hexbear.
Hard to forget an instance that openly threatens to kill you. Hexbear is hateful garbage.
Wtf kind of fedilore did I miss 😀
They're exaggerating. Hexbear didn't threaten to kill at all, it was just a warning to class traitors and other would-be counterrevolutionary protesters. The vast majority of the proletariat would never put themselves in such a position.
It's a complete nothingburger.
Well... https://sh.itjust.works/post/27494947
Oh, it's that one
No it doesn't. It could be Ted Danson. And I assume Ted Danson doesn't even know about the fediverse.
It couldn't be Ted Danson, surely?
That's fair, I agree with you, I just wanted to use the meme
Fair 😄
It's a joke about the fact that there are a lot of people who have a thing against hexbear
That's the joke
it didn't tho
It's 2025, $710 is pocket change for anyone who can still afford to eat.
I bet j_s_0e6b87 has eggs at every meal
What the fuck man?
710$ is like 65% of my monthly expenses.
Daaamn my monthly expenses are like 2.5kUSD (5k split with my partner)
That's seriously out of touch, check your privilege.
I thought it was a joke.
There are a lot of people who genuinely believe shit like that, even on lemmy.
I really don't believe that's anywhere remotely close to true.
You not believing a thing, doesn't mean it isn't happening, it only means you're either not paying enough attention, or choosing not to look, in all likelihood to preserve your own comfort. So I'll say it again - take your head out your ass, and check your privilege.
You believe one thing and I believe another. Why don't you take your head out of your ass and look around? Nobody seriously believes that nobody is struggling right now.
Could be some crypto bros. Apparently they share name with some crypto currency
I gave it a check, and apparently it's a dead cryptocoin. CoinGecko doesn't even list it, Etherscan gives it a market cap of $0.00, and the last transaction was 886d ago. Plus they already have a domain.
Huh. Hexbear, the instance, gets its namesake from this photograph:
I wonder how the cryptocurrency ended up with the same name.
That's on brand, they do love their shitposting
It has only 34 holders. That narrows it down... to 34.
What? Ironic
The other possibility is that its 2 hexbearites who are trying to save the site, not realising they are bidding against each other. Would be pretty silly if that was it.
I went and read the hexbear thread on this. Here's some summary from over there:
No one on hexbear is wasting money on the domain. The consensus is that the money is much better spent on mutual aid.
"If someone claims something happened on the fediverse without providing a link, they’re lying."
I have no idea where you are getting the intention to bid when the admins have repeatedly stated the opposite.
"During this downtime we would be reestablishing access to the new domain (or hexbear.net if we win the auction), access to server ownership, and donation accounts."
That's from the We Fucked Up thread on Chapo.chat
so they seem to have had at least some intention of bidding, but that was when it was under 1k.
Ngl. I was tempted to drop up to $1K on them just to fucking take it out of their hands.
I don't exactly like Hexbear, but I got to agree with one of its users that this sort of money is better spent on charity. Such as helping a child to get a prosthetic leg and medical attention.
