I knew Trump just wanted to try to strong arm him into signing away their mineral rights. They kicked them out of the Whitehouse afterward, and Trump said Zelenskyy could come back when he's ready to talk about peace.
Zelenskyy literally kept asking about security measures/promises.
Why would he sign a deal to fork over mineral rights when America would just walk in, steal their minerals, and then immediately leave them SOL just like they did to the interpreters and people who helped in the war in the Middle East?
The one really great thing about this was that it was straight-up televised proof that Trump and company are authoritarian fascists. It's kind of incredible that they are so blunt about it. I think that blunt straightforwardness will be their downfall.
You would have to be a very dense person or just as terrible to agree with them at this point. They have shown the world their true colors at this point, and I feel like it's a matter of time before their time runs out.
Original $500B mineral deal was crazy for Ukraine. AFAIK, the deal that was planned to sign was a "mere framework" where future US money would be negotiated to be repaid within the framework. The deal to be signed was a fairly empty one.
The substantive parts of the outburst was "Zelensky doesn't even want a ceasefire, and has hatred for Russia", and so however empty the mineral deal was in Ukrainian commitments, it was still a ploy to keep the flow of weapons for purposes of extending the timeline of Ukrainian losses. Europe is still envisioning using Ukraine as a terrorism proxy on Russia after any "lasting peace", which Zelensky committed to by tweet after the meeting. Ukraine needs to "relegalize" parties that included Yanukovych, and have elections that include those parties with the option of Ukraine neutrality that Russia demands. That is the "lasting peace option"
It is simply playing into US empire hands to discard the most humanist antiwar position, since JFK, in the history of US empire, as a negative despite coming from a fascist, as an excuse to seek further submission to US weapons sales to go it alone on a demonic war against Russia.
Anyone who did not know this. Is unlikely to be swung by this event.
They will likely agree with trumps illogical sign the deal first crap. Thinking like trump. IE "beggers can't be choosers and if Ukraine wants anything they should bow the the all mighty USA."
I've not seen any evidence that evidence matters one jot to these voters. They will interpret anything in their favour.
