In Australia and NZ, the consumer protection laws are fantastic. Dead On Arrival products are not the consumer's problem and the business would need to resolve it, which includes following it up with their shipment service if they tried that angle. All the while OP is entitled to another unit "within reasonable time", generally within 28 days as a guideline before cases can be made.
Obviously this doesn't apply to overseas orders, but any business conducting itself in ANZ is subject to the Consumer Laws.
Pretty sure they're just making a joke like how if you're rude to your server or don't tip they'll spit on your food. Kind of an old (US specific probably) trope
