In a bizarre turn of events it seems raising prices is the first course of action.

How exactly would they “pull some shows” from their affiliates? Those are the few hours that earn them money.
The should move the affiliation away from nexstar/sinclair stations and give it to competing stations. This has happened before in broadcast when a licensee acts like this.
ABC licences its network output, not individual programming.
They should make a national version of ABC and put it on Disney+ and Hulu for no additional charge. Replace any local segments with either game show reruns or ABC News Live simulcasts.
I actually agree that Jimmy Kimmel probably shouldn't be on the air, but I also think that if ABC wants to provide his program to their customers and viewers, they should be able to do so. I know it will probably be available next day on Hulu, but still.
Running a national version of ABC would cost them tens of billions annually, and anger their affiliates, who they depend on.
Billions? Why? It'd be online-only and be distributed through Hulu and Disney+. They already made streams for different genres on Disney+ so it truly can't be that expensive.
Because affiliates pay the networks a few billion a year in licence fees. But even more juicy is the cable and satellite retransmission fee, which is paid to the individual stations and then a share is passed up to the network. Retrans fees are worth around $20bn a year.
And advertisers have bought time based on broadcast’s impressive impression conversion to sales. Streaming is much less efficient at this, so ad time is much cheaper.
Well I was thinking of it being an online-only thing. That should make it way cheaper.
It also makes the ad time less valuable, and removes the income from affiliate licencing and retrans fees.
