Reminds me of some stuff that Paolo Freire says about how people of a privileged class sometimes react to oppressed people trying to assert their rights.
I'd include a specific quote, but I don't have one at present; I am loosely referring to a quote used in a video essay I recently watched, and I've been meaning to dig up that particular passage, but I don't recall which video essay (or indeed, the specific quote). Freire is pretty great though, and has a number of great takes on, and adjacent to this vibe.
