Having a hard time with fences... (lemmy.ml)

I'm using the Hardwood Fence to build pens for animals, but they all seem to hop right over them unless I build the fence two high. Anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?

The only other 'structure' I have is stone pillars for the corners, but they're two blocks high. I wonder if it's just my world is bugged or something. I've no doubts that everything will be sorted out in a future patch, though. For now, it's just perplexing! Building a pen with double-stacked fencing makes it look more like a cage than a pen...heh. :D
