A former ally of Mamata Banerjee, the BJP leader will be West Bengal’s next chief minister.

Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of West Bengal who has been recently defeated. She's served 3 consecutive terms.

Suvendu Adhikari, who had been her accomplice in her first two terms, quit her party, joined the opposite party, and became the Chief Minister after defeating her at her home ground.

I thought my friends in Australia were curious about how the politics is shaping up in Bengal, which is going to have a global impact very soon.

In that case, I think it would be helpful to explain the wider context in the body of the post. I imagine a lot of people aren't familiar with either of the people in the post.
