It would be nice to believe that, but in authleft, command economies often suffer shortages of goods due to intrinsically inefficient planning mechanisms that are extremely difficult to resolve (though proposals have been offered which may theoretically work, none were implemented during the period of widespread state socialism during the 20th century).

In libleft, capitalists can be assigned blame under social democratic systems, but a democratic market socialist system is not guaranteed to have a different outcome, as the innate problem is allocation of limited resources by the perceptions of need and desire amongst the general population, rather than the perception of need and desire amongst those with the... well, need and desire.

Unfortunately, there are no perfect solutions. That being said, libleft's "You have a chance, you just need to hope you can hold on long enough" is by far the better choice than the other three; and even authleft's "You were too slow, sorry, someone else who actually needed it got it instead; please fill out Death Form #56B2 in magenta ink." is better than either choice on the right.
