Canvas 2026 - what should we draw? (self.newzealand)

Canvas starts on the 18th of July, less than 3 weeks away. It's an annual event where we place one pixel at a time and work together to create a masterpiece.

Here are efforts from previous years:

2024 and 2025 have canvas atlases to tell you about the different parts.

Looking for ideas on what to do for this year. Full plans or just suggestions for items to incorporate are appreciated!

I was thinking maybe something incorporating our new logo with some bits from previous years, like this (will need touching up to match the colours available in canvas).

Image with LemmyNZ logo, words stating !newzealand@lemmy.nz, with a laser kiwi, fantail, penguin, and gumboots on NZ or in the bits that dodn't have much else to draw

Anyone got ideas to improve it?

Should move in parts. Aim for just the logo first id say

In the past, we've quickly finished the initial plan and so it seemed like a good idea to have a plan from the start. Otherwise we might not have the space for adding on.

I could drop it back to just the logo and community name to claim the space, then we could add to those parts after. But it also seemed more efficient to just make pixels the colour we want at the start instead of having to re-do them for new pieces over the top?
