Yeah Project Hail Mary was a good film but its bursting at the seems with computer generated graphics. The ship interiors, space, the planet, Rocky, Rocky's ship, hell the fruit bowl is probably cg.

"Oh wow! This is the most interesting power pole i think i have ever seen. WAIT!... This other power pole is much more interesting!"

Cool. And how does the font get drawn? Magic? Telekinesis? How does it know where to position the text? Or what text to make a hyperlink?

An algorythm is simply a repeatable set of instructions to achive an outcome. They can be as simple or complex as you want them to be. Facebook uses an algorythm to decided what it is going to serve, this dosent mean its the only algorythm on the site though.

A website without algorithms is like food without chemicals. It cant exist.

I dont think old mate is heading out in a row boat with a giger counter. There would be military inspections and signoffs right?

[–] MadPsyentist 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This was always my thought. If they dont tell us what boats have the bombs then any boat that throws off a wonky rad signiture is banned. We cant tell the difference and know immediatly that we could not trust their word on it.

We dont allow any nuclear ships in NZ because the ships are some sort of "boogyman". We dont let the ships in because you dont tell us which ones store the nuclear bombs! So we treat all the ships like they are carrying nukes and dont allow any of them.

It is important to remember that if you earn 60k you dont pay a flat 25.5% tax. You only pay 25.5% tax on the portion of your income in the 40k to 60k bracket. You would still pay 0% tax on your first 10k you earn in a year then 10% tax on the next 10k you earn in the 10k-19k bracket, and 17.5% tax on the 20k earnt between 20k and 40k. That means for 60k your "effective" tax rate is more like 17% once calculated

Emergance, Christchurch (briancoxlive.co.uk)

Just got back from seeing Brian Cox's new show Emergance. Bloody spectacular! A great way to spend 3 hours. Listening to a Englishman describe planc length, multi universe therory and everything inbetween, all with cool visualizations and a light show.

I have seen it described as "A fancy power point presentation." and mayby it is, but, it would be the fanciest slideshow I ever did see. A lot of really cool galaxy scapes and star scapes all compiled from really recent data from James Webb telescope, Vera Rubin Observatory and The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument "DESI". Oh and a live feed from the International Space Station during the break.

Fully recomend you go see it if you get the chance! He is in Auckland on Thursday and Wellington on Saturday, which is really late notice but i still recommend it.

A quick Christmas message from Gordon Borwn's social media team. But also Merry Christmas you cynical bunch! hope to argue with you in the new year. So stay safe, stay merry, and see you next year.

and in the leftist spirit of Lemmy. and because I couldn't resist. "All i want for Christmas is, 5 minutes of quite, No Crisis, No Phone calls and no fixing everyone else's problem." Welcome to mayoralty buddy that's the fucking job.

not neseserily just this artical but over the past few months I have noticed RNZ with a number of articles along the lines of "10 steps to change party leadership" with their target firmly on Luxon.

Not that i disagree with thier assesment. The dude is little more than an empty suit. It is funny that RNZ is trying to manufacture it, although maybe its a case of "where there is smoke there is fire"

It would be election suicide though. One of Nationals big cards are that they are not the Greens party or Te Pati Maori. Rolling Luxon would send a signal that only Labour is solid. Then again if they already think this election is a loss then rolling Luxon now is a great idea.
