“By removing public office holders in a manner that openly violates the rule of law … it sets a negative precedent that inflicts a deep wound on the constitutional values of democracy, the separation of powers and the rule of law.”

They passed a new law...so by definition it doesn't violate the rule of law. Why are people so stupid?

Because he was basically Orbán's puppet. If he was smart, he wouldn't be in this position.

Rule of law refers to more than just the letter of the law as written. It also refers to those laws being mostly equitable and not explicitly intended to benefit or punish particular people or groups of people. Orbán and his people mostly worked by changing the laws so that their fuckery would all be legal. It really would be better if Hungary could be fully de Orbáned without having to resort to similar tactics.

The real question should be why this guy suddenly now has a problem with that.

I think what you're referring to would be the spirit of the law. The rule of law is the execution of the laws. It doesn't necessarily have to follow the spirit. If the law says a thing, and you do the thing you are following the rule of law. That doesn't mean the thing is right or wrong, just that is what the law says.
