Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

sharing a chocolate bar containing psychedelic mushrooms

Where on earth does one get such a thing? You know, to avoid it.

Here in Denver I just ordered it from a local website, a few hours later the guy called me up and delivered it. It's not legal to sell, bit it is decriminalized. So I technically paid the guy for driving to my house, and the mushrooms were a gift. This was yesterday and I still can't believe it lol. I fucking love Colorado.

You can find products online rather easily. Magic truffles are sometimes easy to find. Otherwise, a bar with 4-aco-dmt would be virtually the same… I believe it shares metabolites with psilocybin.

The YMCA in East Orange, NJ, apparently.

There are mushroom shops all over Ontario, Canada that sell all sorts of stuff like that as well as DMT pens. They're not really legal stores but the police generally don't bother shutting them down

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Police have been fucking the dog in general since 2020.

I believe the state of Oregon sells mushroom edibles in their weed shops.

Edit: Despite the rebuttal below, the situation is murkier. They do and do not sell them in Oregon. lol

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I haven't seen them in normal dispensaries here, but there are some psilocybin centers advertised on billboards around that might have them.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I see. So they’re not sold in the pot shops, but a separate store dedicated to that type of “medicine”. Thanks for clarifying.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

I haven't visited any of these centers (yet) but I'm sure it's very similar to how things were when weed was legalized in 2015 where you had dispensaries separated by "medical" and "recreational" even though they were sharing the same building. I know one dispo I recently visited had a psilocybin center in a satellite building next door, so they'll probably be blended together eventually like the weed dispensaries are now (currently medical patients just don't have to pay the weed tax at normal dispensaries but they're otherwise completely integrated these days).

No? I was misinformed then. I am aware of people that do make packaged bars and was told they were sold in OR. If not there, then where?

Edit: Search results tell me they are legal for medicinal use in Oregon. Not sure where they are acquired though other than black market.

Edit2: They actually do sell “mushroom” edibles in the shops there. They just might not have any in them.

“Oregon researchers say several “magic mushroom” products sold on store shelves don’t actually contain any psilocybin.

Researchers bought 12 so-called “magic mushroom” edibles from convenience stores and smoke shops in Portland, including gummies and chocolates, and then tested their contents.”

“But when researchers analyzed the edibles, they found no trace of psilocybin. Instead, they detected substances like caffeine, cannabinoids, kava root extract, and candy.”

The situation seems fuzzy. Legal to use, but not legal to sell. Faux products in the mix as well. The traditional black market seems easier!

Edit3: Citing my source: https://www.klcc.org/health-medicine/2025-09-12/oregon-researchers-say-some-magic-mushroom-edibles-sold-in-stores-contain-no-psilocybin

[–] newt@piefed.ca 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Yeah thats the same that they sell in indiana gas stations or whatever. But not psilosybin. Its legal medically but you have to do it at their facility and its like $3k a trip. There was a dude from BC that opened a proper mushroom shop in portland but it was totally illegal an was shut down as soon as the news started reporting on it. So maybe you were thinking about that. But 100% certain there are none in cannabis dispensaries.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 1 points 3 minutes ago

Gotcha. I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who makes the choco bars, but the label says “proprietary blend”. lol. Only they know exactly what’s in them, but it’s mushroom-based and they are sold in Oregon. For other reasons, I tend to believe them about being mushroom derived, but I incorrectly assumed it was sold in the weed stores as the Netherlands did it that way when I visited a while back. Thanks for the follow up!

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's probably what they ate, and no wonder it made them sick, they're sold online too. That's the problem with the drug war people will just keep making new stuff that is even more dangerous or unpredictable than the old stuff, it's a losing battle

[–] Kevlar21@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’ve seen some mushroom edibles for sale in the Midwest USA that contained Amanita extracts

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I've seen those advertised on Instagram actually lol, I have no idea who would want to take them amanita is not exactly the most recreational of mushrooms but I guess it's a grey area

[–] Kevlar21@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I haven’t tried Amanita because it sounded unpleasant when I read about it. Feels like they just sell it because people will buy it thinking they’re getting the good mushrooms without bothering to read and understand the label.

Yeah I had a run in with anticholinergics in high school dabbling with dramamine with my stoner metal head friends lol, I can still see the spiders, so yeah I also have little interest in them besides academically as well. I think you're right they are just playing on people's naivete, they see them and think oh the super mario mushroom that's the one
