Side note, I have a personal belief that if you don't occasionally get a couple of downvotes, then you're too agreeable, and you likely don't think for yourself enough.
You have to be comfortable in your own skin and think for yourself and say what you actually think in a public forum. Otherwise, what's the point?
Simultaneously, if you get tons of downvotes almost every time you post, you're an asshole and you need to reevaluate yourself.
If you occasionally get downvoted into oblivion because you didn't express your thoughts clearly or because your thought actually is kind of fucked up, then you should keep that post visible and evaluate and learn from it.
Sometimes 60 million people are wrong, sure, but also, sometimes you've not fully thought out your position
But if everyone likes everything that you have to say, then how much of what you're saying are your own original thoughts?
And if you're not sharing at least partially original thoughts, then what are you actually contributing to the forum?
Edit: I wish I could find the person who downvoted this comment. I feel like they did that just to give it extra credibility, and I really appreciate that. That's pretty freakin' funny.
Good news. You can do that.
I had no idea!
Ironically, Tesseract is how I came to know votes aren't hidden as it was the first thing that came around to let non-instance admins view them. Lemvotes is way faster tho.
tfw I'm on an instance without downvotes!
Well I just down voted you to show that I both agree and can think for myself. Am I doing this right?
If you were the first person to do it, you might have been, but being the third or fourth person just means you're following a trend. Think for yourself, bro.
Ok I just swiped right. :*
Agree 100% especially the leaving up stuff that wasn't communicated clearly, or in some cases someone read something into it and everyone else just assumed you 'really meant' what they read into it instead of what you wrote. Best to leave it there to chuckle at how people tend to infer all kinds of stuff based on their personal experiences that you probably weren't even aware of.
It's so much better if you hide the votes entirely. Then suddenly I don't feel bad about getting 50 replies that say I'm wrong, because who knows, maybe 500 non-repliers thought I was right? I don't know, because I can't see! Haha!
