It's generally impossible to really tell this is Seattle, but you'll have to take my word for it. It's Ballard, in particular. But there's no defining landmarks, nothing that pins it explicitly to any body of water whatsoever.

A month ago, I was in Astoria, at the Imogen Gallery, and in the back was a work by Corey Arnold, a photographer and a fisherman who's work I've been following for about nine months now. The way he captures the sea is incredible to me.

So I sat down and I worked hard at doing something in a similar vein with this work: the blues are saturated, but not too much, just enough to bring out the texture in the waterscape; the center's been sharpened a bit more than the edges, and the contrast has been altered to properly show how the light hits the water in so many different ways.

It may not be much to look at, but this is a photographer's picture first and foremost, a picture that says "yeah, so what? actually wait, how'd you do that?"
