Reminds of the moments when paying for fuel, and SUV drivers waiting next in the queue weep when they see how much I pay, as a microbus driver. Yeah. I have double the usable space in my vehicle, and am paying less than half for fuel.

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Oh sure you have usable space, but is your powerful (not even a little bit insecure) masculinity being projected effectively??

I've been driving an EV for 6 years.

  • I have never run out of electricity.
  • It hasn't caught fire.
  • I do not miss switching to 2. gear.
  • I do not miss the noise.
  • My penis size has not changed.
  • I do enjoy the lower cost.
  • I am mildy and smugly annoyed by the doll head nodders in ice cars who can't get an even acceleration when starting at the green light.
  • I do not miss standing in the cold at the gas station holding a nozzle for minutes to empty my wallet.
  • Charging time has never been an issue as it happens by itself when I don't use the car.
  • Range has never been an issue as I hate driving to other countries in non stop trips anyway.

Is there anything else you would like to know about driving EVs?

Have you found yourself accidentally gesturing “my heart goes out to you” with an extended arm at a fascist rally?

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No, but unrelated to my car, I did make googly eyes when I saw a bunch of Nazis on a corner of a street four years ago. I do regret it though.

In my half a century of living I have bever seen that before, so it came as a shock to me. Next time I will ensure to give them a good beating instead.

What drugs do you take for range anxiety? Or do you use therapy?

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Do you often run out of gas in your car? Does your phone often run out of battery?

If you're a functioning adult who can answer "no" to those questions, then you do not need to worry about range anxiety.

In my car, I can also look at the navigation system which has a nice big circle showing how far I can go. You see the dark area outside the circle? You must never go there, Simba.

I ask myself that every day in my dorky little EV. Sure, it will beat nearly any truck up to 60 mph, but it doesn't blow black smoke out of the side and it doesn't sound like marbles rattling in a steel can. I tried putting a playing card in the wheel spokes but it was still too quiet.

Maybe it needs speakers on the back like one of the new chargers.

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

speakers on the back like those new chargers

How anyone could drive one of those without feeling like a total doofus the whole time, I'll never know...

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

To be fair they seem to have trouble selling them.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm amazed that people keep trying to make evs loud rather than marketing the quiet as a selling point. Run an ad of a man quietly slipping out to get an anniversary present after he forgot or not waking his baby or something like that. These companies are great at manufacturing desire, I believe in their ability to do it for this

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Exactly, the quiet is the best part. Allegedly my EV is quieter on the road than a Rolls-Royce.

Sometime around 2020 they made a rule that they had to make some kind of noise. My car is older than that, and I have startled enough cyclists to understand why its needed.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, doesn't growl and make an angry fuss. It's all so graceful.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It's also, to me, relaxing.

I don't have to worry about the bands/clutches in the transmission, I don't have to worry about bad gas, I don't have to worry about what this or that engine noise means, I just have to plug it in.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My old one was a petrol mid-engine, real wheel drive, manual, no power steering, no power brakes, with twin sunroof. ;D

This sports car pedigree is adequate masculinity bragging rights. ;D

... Also, according to the advertising, it picks up 5 times as many women as a lambo. :D

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

That's a pretty genius ad.
