Yeah, not all meat eaters! All diets matter!
edit to explain: The unfathomable and pointless violence that the meat industry engages in is normalized, just like the violence of patriarchy and white supremacy. Centering the small number of edge cases where these relations do not hold in a conversation about the mass violence of the dominant system is an attempt to rob the powerless of a voice.
You are right that the intersection of carnitarian minority cultures and the suffering of the animals they consume in the process is vulnerable, like an "all lives matter" protester is right that a white person's life matters too. If your only concern is cultural preservation then you're using culture as an excuse for violence against non-humans.
Look I get hating the meat industry, I despise factory farming too. It’s a brutal, and vile industry that needs to be regulated. But just blanket blaming everyone who consumes meat, and not giving them even a second of your time to understand why. Is. Just. Stupid.
Just cause you don’t eat meat, does not give you the right to blame others for doing so. I respect people who can and do eat vegan or vegetarian. My mom is one of those people, however the difference is; she does not go out of her way to bully and belittle others for not making the same decision. She’s an actual adult about it.
Like I already said, which it seems you never even read or just choose to ignore since it defeats your argument, some cultures eating meat is an aspect of it. Hunting animals is an aspect of their culture and cultural practices. We should not be saying their entire culture is evil because of that, and that they should abandon it since that is a racist and culturally insensitive.
Nor should we look down on people hunting animals in cases where that helps keep the population stable. By doing so we keep prey animals from over populating, eating up all the available resources, leading to their lives being worse. Eating the meat that results from this, is ethical since less animals suffer because of the selective culling of the population.
Or forbid someone, other than you, have a different diet that supports their health. Like another person wanting to live a happy and healthy life is the end of the world because their diet contains meat.
As for the whole “edge case” argument…
Are millions of people whose cultures have ties to eating meat an edge case? Do they and their lifestyles not deserve consideration? Do other people not matter?
And does managing the ecosystem not matter either? Do animals not matter? Cause if we full stop on responsible hunting and fishing billions of animals and plants will suffer needlessly.
Just like we don’t use napalm to trim a hedge, we shouldn’t blame everyone without thinking about all the possible consequences. It’s not fun but it’s the best way to not cause far more needless suffering.
