Internet has a hard-on for virtue-signaling and black-and-white perspective, and "adopt, don't shop" is one of those. There is nothing wrong with ethical, responsible breeding.

There is, however, a lot wrong with unethical breeding (e.g. doll-face persians, scottish folds, pugs, frenchies, showline GSDs, etc., and backyard breeding as a whole) and official breed standards set by people who only care about the looks and not the health of the animal.

There is nothing wrong with ethical, responsible breeding.

Except that almost no one does it and 90% of breeders are just people having their animals fuck in their backyard.

Source: numbers came out of my ass, but I know a breeder and they were the second kind and agree.

where do the animals fuck in the other 10%? Front yard?

Good breeders will have little hotel rooms with jungle themes. It's way classier.

Purebred = inbred. You can whitewash the process all you want, there's simply no way to make "purebreds" that isn't inherently unethical.

I'mma be honest, I've never heard "whitewash" used in this context. Had to look up the definition, and it turns out every other time I've heard it used was incorrect. Life is a fascinating ride.

Yeah, nothing to do with Caucasians lol, at least not explicitly.

Don't stop there. Keep explaining the problems with breeding while you talk shit about people who actually give a shit.

[-] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

There is no ethical breeding as long as shelters are euthanizing to save space

[-] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh piss off you insufferable twit.

[-] sculptor0725@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

I mean coming from someone who thinks treating pets as property is fucked up I don't think it's that hard to convince me that making them in a factory is a bad idea

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone -3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh you must know op personally then.

Otherwise, why else would you accuse someone of "virtue signaling," before going on to list a bunch of real issues with it?
