AI made that impossibly out of reach for too many people.
I understand why tpm chips are a good idea but you can't just say "fuck you, fork out cash and cut over".
Look at the move to digital broadcast television.
The percentages are way different (way more people are using legacy PC's than had legacy tv sets) but they sold adapters for the tv folks.
They did the opposite and pulled the rugs out from under any "proceed anyway" options that were present for putting 11 on incompatible harfware.
TPMs would be cooler if they weren't proprietary. I understand the benefits of having a place to store sensitive things in a way that they never have to touch disk, but having those chips be controlled in a proprietary fashion by some tech megacorp is not ideal.
Hardly anyone requires new hardware. They haven't sold PCs that won't comply for 8 years.
I am typing this reply on an 17 year old PC that works absolutely well for any day-to-day task. A PC that can run Windows 10 happily.
Not the OP and I can only speak for myself, but my daily driver is a rig I built 9 years ago with a motherboard that released 10 years ago without a TPM and it's running just fine. Processors have advanced so little in the past decade that my top-of-the-line 8c16t 6th gen i7 just powers through whatever I give it without worries. Upgrading the motherboard to a comparable one now means a new CPU and new RAM, and thats just not viable in the current climate. Once things do settle down and I build a new one, I'll be moving over to linux anyway, W11 is an active security hazard that I'd rather not deal with, moreso than trying to run W10 after updates ended IMO.
Oh so you don't have a few $1000 just burning a hole in your account? Why are you being mean to microslop? Come on just spend the money, "upgrade" and have a worse experience.
