Hello! Next week there's a trans person joining my club for training. Because I´m not trans and don't have anyone close to me that I know is trans I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on how to support them. We've never had a trans person here so this is might be kinda new for lots of people. I know some general stuff like I should probably ask them for their pronouns and which changing room they wanna use (we only got one for men and one for women, so I was thinking if they're not comfortable they can use the restroom for people with a disability thats right around the corner in the same building). So aside from that, any suggestions?

PS I know this is a transfem community and I don't know the identity of this person but this was the largest trans community I could find, if theres a better place to ask lemme know!

Edit: I don't wanna share which sport exactly cus of privacy but its not a team sport so at least at training there won't be any separation based on gender

Just you doing research and asking question before you meet them is incredible and youre already well on your way to being respectful to this person.

Basically, treat em like any other human. The main thing i think about in a new place is the safety of the place overall (talking to them will go a long way to make them feel safe) and whether ill be harassed just using the bathroom.

So besically do everything normally! When you introduce yourself you could ask how they identify and if they answer youll have a pretty good idea of which BR they want to use.

Now if you want to go above and beyond, and become this persons best friend at the same time, you can keep an eye on everyone else instead of this person. Just generally looking out for antitrans behavior (staring, usually with a disgusted look, avoidance, laughing and talking about the person, etc etc) these are behaviors theyll try to make sure WE dont see, but if you look out YOULL see it for sure. Snuffing that out will instantly make you the bestest of friends lol

Hope this helps, youre a genuinely great person ❤️❤️
