what is NAW and AML?
NAW is the data the operator can get from the phone number, static data from the carrier subscription. It's dutch for name, address, city.
AML is Advanced Mobile Location, a standard that allows your phone to send the GPS coordinates to the operator.
I wpold hope that if linux phones support AML that they have ways of disabling it.
Why so? IIRC it only sends to emergency services no?
I have no faith that ICE wouldn't have access to the data from US dispatch offices
If I have understood correctly, it is only sent when you place an emergency call.
I think your concern should be more about the carriers sharing cell association data with them - as long as the phone is on, that can be used to track location pretty accurately.
But a toggle would be nice, I agree.
