You’re free to live in a cave and fight bears everyday or whatever, if you feel that is your calling.
I'm most states technically speaking you can't do that. The state will harass you to no end about stuff they claim is for your safety and will being but mostly they're just offended you exist without owing someone for the luxury to exist.
