Ironically, Goblin Slayer returns to the intensity of its first episode basically never again in the show (except for brief moments occasionally through out both seasons).

True. Though unfortunately Goblin Slayer ends up being uninteresting after season 1. I wouldn't say it's bland (because it still has a fair bit of violence), but it just seems to stall out
