Two posts about becoming a house wife in a row. The children yearn for the kitchen

Tbf, it's 4chan. Misogyny is expected.

[-] Shayeta@feddit.org 8 points 5 days ago

"Women should have a right to choose how to live their lives. Unless they choose to be housewives, that's misogyny."

[-] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That's what I've always found hilarious about the white knighting for femenism. It's literally about choice, and a woman's right to choose. If they CHOOSE to be a housewife, more power to them and they shouldn't be belittled for it.

feminism wasn't initiated to give more rights to women, it was initiated to increase the mass of laborers willing to let themselves be exploited by companies. they just had to sell it to the people as "actually, this is good for women somehow"

[-] Shayeta@feddit.org 4 points 4 days ago

The goal of feminists was to gain more rights. The goal of the parties who supported them was to increase number of laborers.

Both are true at the same time.

[-] revelrous@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 days ago

Feminism is absolutely about pursuing equal rights. Your issue is with the exploitative nature of capitalism.

[-] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Yeah. God forbid a woman WANTS to work.

My partner is permanently disabled. We're a single income home. They WISH they could work, as we struggle to get by sometimes.

[-] gandalf_der_13te@feddit.org 0 points 4 days ago

i'm well aware that some people want to work but consider this: women today can effectively not choose to stay at home in like 99% of cases. where do you find a partner that is willing to pay for this? basically anyone would expect that the woman contributes financially, because after all other women can do it too, right? so it's effectively not a choice that women can make, they're expected to work by society. and so it's more of an obligation instead of a choice.

I think you're interleaving two separate changes. One is the mid-20th century feminist fight for women to be allowed to work (in the West, anyway), and the other is the fact that wages haven't kept up with cost of living increases since about the Reagan era. Capitalists forcing everyone to work full-time jobs just to scrape by was certainly enabled by the success of feminist labor movements, but you're drawing a false equivalence between the feminist goal of "if they'd like to, women should be allowed to perform any job" and the capitalist goal of "we can make it impossible for families to get by without all adults being worked to the bone, that will increase our labor pool". The early feminists wanted to be able to choose to provide for themselves, maybe even provide for a stay-at-home husband. What you're saying sounds a lot like "the only good feminists are housewives".

Hey, I already am a housewife! While my bf is at work, I clean this place up, take care of the dirty laundry and stuff. I keep this place nice! πŸ˜† (even tho we're not yet married, does the term housewife still apply?)
I wish I was still a child tho...being an adult sucks 😭😭😭

[-] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 8 points 5 days ago

we can call you a housegirlfriend if you'd prefer :3

[-] AnxiousMiisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 days ago

I think I'd like that, actually :3

[-] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 8 points 5 days ago

in that case congratulations, you just earned yourself a tag!

[-] AnxiousMiisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago

Omg, I've been tagged 😭
I feel blessed 🩷

No idea how tags work on Lemmy, but I'm guessing only you see the tags you make? They're not community-wide like Reddit flairs? It's a shame. This is a really cute one too
Thank youuu πŸ’œ

[-] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

yeah they're just a little note you can add to a user to help remember who's who, once you've got a few of them it can be quite fun to see familiar faces showing up in the most random places all over lemmy :3
they're purely a client-side feature and the official lemmy ui doesn't support them - personally i use Summit for Lemmy when browsing on mobile but i'm pretty sure most of the other popular mobile apps support tags as well

Oh, I'm on Summit too, thanks for teaching me about tags!

two can play at that game

[-] AnxiousMiisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

Aha, I see. Thank you then!

Also, fellow Summit user :3
Helloooo ❀️

[-] Gonzako@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Oh, yeah defo applies. Marriage is more for legal recognition but the relationship dynamics apply regardless of legal tender.

Can confirm, adulting sucks
