Meta has settled a landmark court battle over teen social media addiction by agreeing to pay $23.6 billion and adding further child-safety measures to its Facebook and Instagram apps.

The agreement came ahead of Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg being expected to take the stand before a jury in federal court.

Meta is urging competitors like TikTok and YouTube to adopt similar measures.

Evil generates profit, and capital funds evil. It's a feedback loop. They use their resources to condition us to serve them, directly or indirectly. We need drastic change.

We are not a generic World News clone. News must be relevant to Australians and our region. Obvious disregard will earn an warning and then a ban if continued. (If an article isn't from an Oceanian news outlet, and it doesn’t mention Australia, then it’s probably off-topic)
News posts must include some body text explaining how the article is particularly relevant to the Australian perspective, rather than mere global news.
Leave seppocentrism at the door. If you don't know what that means, you're not ready to post here yet.
Avoid editorialising headlines. Opinions go in the comments, not the post.
