Was Dolly a good person ? True question. I'm not American, she wasn't famous at all in my country. I knew her only because she had big boobs.
There's nothing wrong with that, but she was smart and talented. She leveraged the fact that she (also) had big boobs. And she used much of the profits to help children. Be like Dolly...
She specifically got big boobs for it lol. She has always been quite open about her fake tits.
I thought she got them enhanced after already being known for them? Anyway, I forget the exact timeline...
Nah she got her first boob job at 22 lol. Then kept going bigger.
She had somewhere around 1000cc implants by the time she stopped going bigger.
She’s been very open about all her plastic surgery.
Yes. Dolly really was one of the very few good ones. She was incredibly smart, despite what she may seem on the outside. The look, even the boobs, were a calculated thing.
Lindsay Ellis released an hour long video asking and answering this same question the day after Dolly passed. Spoiler alert: yes, she was that good of a person.
She did once say "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!"
Small clarification -- Lindsay Ellis released her video on Nebula last Friday (Aug 21), originally titled: "Yeah, but is Dolly really THAT great?"
She renamed, briefly prefaced, and released it on YouTube following Parton's death.
True. I did intend to say "released an hour long video on YouTube". I also started to suggest everyone go watch it but it was sounding like a shill or something so I deleted all that context from my comment.
Even though she said she wasn't a feminist and didn't "do politics". Which wasn't true, of course, but maybe she didn't realise that.
Maybe she just didn't think of it as politics. She believed in education, she believed in literacy, she believed in equality, she believed in gay and transsexual rights, etc... To her that just wasn't political, it was just the way you were supposed to be. It was just part of being a good person.
oh, yeah. I too believe in all those things and I also don't see them as political -It's everyone else that makes it political. -Not me, though.
You can tell what someone's politics are but what they consider to be "political". To some people, others just existing as a woman or some type of minority is a political act.
If you openly say you do politics then your followers expect a response to every thing that's going on. Being politically active without being overt about it is much more effective imo.
Dolly was business savvy, she owned her own songs from the start and despite owning the rights (and getting royalties) from over 3000 songs and having a popular tourist trap in Dollywood she never became a billionaire cause she kept sending those profits into her foundation and philantrophic work. She's given away hundreds of millions of books to kids among other things.
Yes. She started a charity called Imagination Library that sends a free book every month to children across the county. Seemed like a genuinely kind and caring person
That was at the start. Five years later it went national and six years after that it went international. The Imagination Library gives almost 25 million books to kids each year, all because Dolly’s dad couldn’t read and she saw how that affected his life.
She also while being from the deep south growing up in a religious household respected and appreciated LGBTQ+ folks.
