A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Three or four blinks of the four-way / hazard lights is commonly used as "Thank you". That would be appropriate for someone who let you in.
I have never heard of this and would genuinely think the person was having an issue. Where I'm from people just put a hand up as a wave. You lower most of your fingers if they tried to cut you off.

The way people communicate in cars using hazard lights is country specific usually in my experience.
I've noticed some small number of people here (Australia) turning them on when they break hard but I think that might be something that model of car does automatically when you jump on the anchors.
It's pretty common in Palestine, not sure about other Arab countries.
It's common in the USA, especially amongst truckers, where you can't see the hand wave.
If a trucker in Australia put on their hazards I'd be getting the fuck out of the way or given them some room because some shit was about to go down, you know, like a hazard.
Hmm, I thought this was more common, is it not used in the states or something? Not seeing it anywhere near as much as I was expecting to in this thread. Far as I know this is the standard everyone uses, but I guess not "everyone" everyone.
It's not a thing in the States at all. There's zero use of the hazard lights other than to indicate your car is having problems and you need to pull over, or you're parking (poorly, usually) and will be right back.

Lived in the states my entire life. Never heard of that.
Yeah, that's what I figured. When stuff isn't as common as you expect on the internet, it probably doesn't happen in the states.
I've seen turning your headlights/running lights off and on in the US for a "sorry/thanks". I haven't seen hazards used for that ever

I've only seen that in Eastern Europe, but as both a "thank you" and also "oh, shit, sorry."
Western Europe too. But then again there are a lot of eastern European truck drivers here.
