I am a Gen Z university student. The ChatGPT got boom when I was in 12th grade and I have been using ChatGPT, Gemini and Deepseek since then. I am starting to notice that now I cannot do searching anymore. I literally cannot do anything on my own like coding, learning something, fact checking, doing my assignments. I even become so reliant on it that I sometime even ask it what food should I eat, what exercises I should do. Sometimes, I "talk" with ChatGPT more than real human beings, maybe cuz I somehow end up having a bad experience or not so fulfilling experience with people. I have to use AI again and again for the same question, e.g., I asked a question today, I got the answer. If I encountered that question later again, I would not know the answer and have to go to AI for solution. What to do now? How to get out of this dependence on AI?

Social anxiety is a pretty common problem and some people really are pretty bad/weird/scary, so I can understand.

But there are a lot of good people out there too! It will take some time, practice and effort, but eventually you will find your people, and those people will become an actual part of your life. Figure out what you want your hobbies to be and actively try to meet people into those things.

If you feel that it's really difficult for you, then I would suggest therapy. Social anxiety is treatable, often just by finding someone to talk with who can understand and listen to you without fear of judgement.

It's a good sign that you at least recognize that your relationship with AI is a problem! It's never too late to course correct in life, or build meaningful relationships.

I have been affected the most by the very people I loved the most but yeah I am thinking to be healed but feeling scared to have my heart broken again.

I know that feeling. My parents mistreated me. I was a people pleaser for a long time. I let people take advantage of me and I assumed they would support me in return. They did not.

I am still looking for a place where I feel at home. Maybe I'll never find it, but I'll never know if I don't try.

When no one else was there for me, I did not turn to AI. I wrote my thoughts and feelings in a notebook. It's a form of honest self reflection with no limitations; you can imbue personality into each word. Some pages contained neatly ordered sentences, others had just a few words angrily scratched into the paper. Throw some doodles in there, why not? The result is a physical log of you at a particular time in your life. You can reflect on it yourself, no external validation required.

Humanity is struggling under the weight of its own mistakes. It sounds like you are trying your best. Sometimes things are just bad. It's not your fault. I wish you well.

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
