That’s more than enough for a statistically significant sample.
I wish all the people who harp on about sample size would at least google it first before commenting that they know better than academics whose job this is.

No, academics know how calculate sample size uncertanties.
If you want to draw conclusions on the ideas of 28 million people i would say you would need to survey at last half of them, projecting the answers of 3000 people to the whole population of australia is a big generalization

I run a survey and interviewed 10 people on lemmy, i conclude that you are a tankie.
That would’ve been a good opportunity to admit you got it wrong but you chose to double down on the stupid. Oh well.
It's not if you ask me, you cannot project the beliefs of 3000 people into 28 millions
For a binary choice where you expect distribution to be relatively similar you can do it with less than 400 while having 95% confidence and 5% margin of error. That’s just statistics and probability.
