It can still have positive and negative lingering effects but focus on the big picture for a moment

For me:

  • the opposite of having established redundant measures for safety kills. My finances have been improving since I plan for the worst and overestimate my liabillities while underestimating potential inflows

You're never going to reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. Most people don't make decisions based on logic, and explaining things to them doesn't make a difference. You can't "educate" people enough to change their minds. Explaining things to them on the internet doesn't do SFA. People in general aren't rational actors. Most people believe what they believe because it's what "Their people" believe, whomever they define as "Their People." They change their minds when they risk losing something or someone that matters to them if they don't. Fear of rejection is how most people decide what's right or wrong, not logic. If you want to change minds, be someone they don't want to live without. Do your best to make rational choices for yourself, but if you're trying to convince other people, don't argue, it's not going to do anything.
