I think It's incredibly hard to predict where this is going and at what rate. Public sentiment is largely biased based on AI hate..
"Dumb" agents given too much power could do an untold amount of damage already, we wouldn't even need further breakthroughs. For example I can totally imagine that some degree of Ai control could act as a trigger for the Kessler effect, this is plausible today.
