both very unassuming, and seldom seen.

You might see fernbirds, but will more often just hear a double tick-tick-tick-chirp

Australasian bittern, good luck see one of them. If you are very lucky you might just hear one 'booming' with a himpf-himpf call

Well if seldom seen is the criteria, why not Fairy tern? only 40 left, and they are sea birds, so not many chances to see one!
