Interesting issue; I use Voyager app, because there I can swipe away posts, and then they are hidden from me. I really miss this bad in Piefed-Web-UI, so I rarely use it.
For me, it is a must-feature that I can follow this kind of inbox-zero-workflow.
Now I know that it is possible in PieFed too, with the described options (see other comments). It seems to me, though, that up-/downvoting only to make the post hidden is not the ideal way (although it works for the individual user). Opening it to hide it is also not perfect; several interactions instead of one (like in Voyager), and maybe I do not want it to disappear after reading. Maybe I also want to vote but still keep it visible. Voyagers approach is best, it seems to me.
It would be great if, in Lemmy and PieFed Web, there was an efficient way to hide - independent of voting or reading. Maybe there is - and I don't know it?!
(PS. : I just saw that this community here is dedicated to the lemmy.world-instance - not to lemmy-software or even PieFed. I hope it is okay to bring about this topic, here, anyway.)
Yes there is a way, please see https://piefed.social/c/piefed_meta@piefed.social/p/2262951/hide-mark-a-post-as-read-without-voting-on-it
