Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

You are literally the only end l other person I've ever heard talk about John Dies at the End. I loved that book! It sticks with me now, like 15 years after reading it and I still think about it.
Read the sequels, if you haven’t yet. They’re all amazing, and the fifth book is releasing soon. So much fun.
I also love John Dies at the End (and the couple of sequels I've read), and Garth Marenghi.
What other books do you recommend?

Skullcrack City can’t be recommended enough, one of my all time favorites. Noir, Practical Demonkeeping, A Dirty Job, or anything else by Christopher Moore. Jason Pargin also has another book series that starts with Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, and a stand alone novel called I’m Starting To Worry About This Black Box of Doom. The Yellow Wallpaper is a fun short read. Who Goes There? is the oroginal story that inspired The Thing and The Thing That Fell From Space and is just a cool story for how early on it was written. House Of Leaves is weird as fuck, but that one is definitely not for everybody. Most anything from Lovecraft, but I especially enjoyed reading Shadow Over Innsmouth.
If you’ve read and enjoyed JDATE, read Skullcrack City right fucking now, I’m serious.
Edit: Not as much on the same level of weird, but The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is a masterwork, except for the middle bits of book four.
Edit: Also Apathy and Other Small Victories is a ton of fun. And Ulrich Haarburst’s Novel of Roy Orbison In Cling Film is an absurdist marvel of short stories where the author and his turtle are put in situations in which the solution requires Roy Orbison to be wrapped in cling film. I can’t stress this enough, it is not in any way sexual and is oddly wholesome and entirely earnest.
