How terrifying would that be though. A housecat bigger than you. These adorable fuckers torture their pray for fun. There's absolutely fuckall you can do if a 6 foot cat attacks you, assuming they have the same hunting abilities of their regular counterparts. Their reflexes are faster than snakes. They can rehydrate from drinking blood. Get anywhere within armsreach of them, and they'll shred you faster than Dorothy from HR can shred a stack of employee complaints.

You're kind of just describing a tiger, and, yeah, checks out

My mind was blown to find out that Pickles are not just another plant, and that Pickles and Cucumbers are the same plant.

In 2004 I had a cat. My cat was one of those cats who lives exclusively for food. She would happily lay in the lap of Hitler, if Hitler had some food for her. So first thing, I always feed the cats. Then I can go sit down on the couch, and wake up in peace.

One day we went through that routine. I put the food in their bowls, set it down, and then go sit down. As I go sit on the couch, IMMEDIATELY after sitting down, I mean my butt wasn't even fully rested on the couch cushion yet, my food loving cat pokes her head around the corner, and lets out a cry. The other cat was in the background, just looking at me like "Yeah, maybe you should come see this...."

I walk in, and see a mouse in their food bowl, just gobbling it up. I look at my cats, and I'm like "You guys know you're cats, right? That's a mouse. You ever see Tom and Jerry? C'mon. Get to work."

And they just stared at me. Probably on account of the fact that they don't know English, or American pop culture from the 1950s. So they just sat there, watching the mouse eat their food.

So I got an oven mitt, and a leather glove. I picked up the whole food dish, walked it outside, walked across the street, and dumped the mouse down a sewer.

Then I came back inside, with their food bowl, and my cats were just staring at me like "Food?"

And I said "I don't know why you're looking at me! You're always begging for more food. That was free protein right there."

To which she responded "Meow?"

Eventually I had to clean their dish out, and get ANOTHER can of cat food ready for them.

So really it depends on your cat how much of a threat they'd be. My mom had an outdoor cat in the early 90s. Very loving to my mom, and the guy she was dating. I didn't live there, so the cat didn't afford me the same love. But that cat knew how to hunt. I wouldn't have been surprised to learn it somehow took down a gazelle.

So it all just depends. Is your cat a hunter......or a pussy?

I think the real takeaway here is that they view you as their slave. You’re in good company, I gotta admit.

[-] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago

I have seen what they do to EACH OTHER, I'd rather not have this scenario play out

[-] limelight79@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago

My cat punched me on the face at 4:45 this morning until I woke up. Then he walked away; he didn't want anything. He just appointed himself alarm clock.

Definitely don't want a larger version.

[-] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 6 days ago

but have you considered the cuddles?

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 19 points 6 days ago

Have you considered the cat hair problem?

[-] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 14 points 6 days ago

This is why I don't think you'd see a lot of real life furries in the food industry, full body hairnet or maybe stuck working at furry owned businesses

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

Well, and the fact that (personal feelings) it's hard knowing that you are killing animals for food, even if they are very tasty. Hair can be handled, crying yourself to sleep every night does things to you.

Though 'furry owned and operated' business, hell yeah. But why is it only in the IT and Artistic categories... 🤔

[-] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 days ago

Well fur and tails can get caught in industrial machinery easy

[-] bacon_saber@fedia.io 6 points 5 days ago

...or the litter box situation?

My eyes are itching at the thought. That said, didn't we used to have tile in here? Now it's just mattress

There’s a comedian (I can’t remember their name) that has a bit about how they refuse to give their cat any kinds of beef-based food or treats.

Salmon? Cool. Chicken? Great. But my cat’s ego is already big enough. There’s no way my cat could take down a cow, and she’d be insufferable if she ever thought she could.

I bring this up to say that a six foot cat probably could take down a cow. I say this as someone who has a cat: cats are only cute because they’re like fifteen pounds soaking wet. If they were the same size as us, they would 100% consider us prey.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 15 points 6 days ago

Same thing with birds. Those sweet little song birds, little and cute. Until you imagine yourself the size of their prey. They're freaking velociraptors.

[-] Sandbar_Trekker@piefed.zip 15 points 6 days ago

I think velociraptor definitely conjures the correct imagery here. However, it's always bothered me that, in reality, velociraptors are small compared to Humans. Jurassic Park/World based their velociraptors on deinonychus. But, going by size, the "Velociraptors" you see in those movies are much closer to "Utahraptors".

I like how dinosaurs are now commonly accepted to have had feathers

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

I would be eaten within minutes. My cat already considers himself to be the dominant animal in the home.
