Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
not just multiple! allegedly - they say Iran destroyed 8 F-15 planes and 1 A-10 in a single strike on the ground.
And Houthis just did a literal blietzkrieg TODAY - and took several islands, huge territory and an important port - and no news outlets covering this.
This is complete failure of US intelligence and US navy, This is total failure of republican led military. how can you control the seas and let thta happen?
and guess what - red sea - closed. our fleet will have to sail back around Africa now - no I kid you not (or beg Houthis to let them pass - houthis might let em but damn this is bad)
wow, they really did it, they made the US Navy as effective as Russia's!
At $88M+ each. Also doesn't help that we've curbed our capacity to produce this kind of aircraft over the last decade. Every lost F-15 will take years to replace, if we can replace them at all.
Idk, man. It's very easy to say this was an intelligence failure. But what if we had these bases with the implicit consent (or, at least, apathy) of those around them? What if there wasn't any practical defense against an armed uprising of this scale and sophistication?
I do think westerners have this sense of invincibility, such that the only explanation for a defeat is that they misplayed a winning hand. But we fell into that trap in Korea and then in Vietnam and then again in Afghanistan and Iraq. We spend decade after decade fighting these enormous populations of anti-colonial insurgents and losing time after time.
Maybe this isn't some kind of tactical failure. Maybe we just shouldn't have picked another losing fight against a bunch of home grown ~~freedom fighters~~ Islamic Extremists when they'd just finished kicking our asses five years ago.
F-15EX production line is active with 200+ outstanding orders, so maybe not as big of a blow as it could have been a few years ago.
200+ orders when they can't even produce two a month.
Its also the equal area Africa, so those dumb americans will have to go round ~20% more land, which the US didnt vote for!
/s for those who overrate their cognitive ability
I wouldn't call this a US failure these days. Quite standard, really.
Who is Houthis and who did they take the islands from? And are they populated islands?
Depending on who you ask, the rulers of Yemen, or insurgents. Houthi itself is the name of a family that most of their leadership is from.
Yemen
A few people live on some of the islands and there's a military base on Mayyun, which is the latest one captured, but the other ones mentioned are from a few days ago. Mayyun is pretty significant strategically due to its location:
The article says that it's lightly damaged but serviceable though? Where's your source for the F-15s being damaged?
telegram channnels. god I hate telegram channeles and they could be wrong. but you remember "damagged" sentry? (which was actually destroyed)
