Who's that creeping on Picard?
It's the Star Trek character named Q.
He's one of the most annoying yet necessary characters in the series.
People who don't like Star Trek are like "Nothing ever happens. They can just create anything they need in a replicator, teleport everywhere and shoot lasers to make things go away. All they do is talk."
Well, that's the fucking point, isn't it? The series investigates what issues are even worth thinking about once we rule out the ordinary troubles of violence, physical needs and money.
Q is the catalyst for some of those ethical and philosophical dilemmas. It's an interdimensional being that transcends both space and time. Not exactly a god, but just a being from a higher plane of existence. He likes to play around with Picard the same way that the cartoonist of La Linea (the line guy) plays around with his 2d drawing.
