$5_000 for every american adult if the GOP wins! But wait, that doesn't just mean you... black people, hispanics, and your annoying neighbour Nate are going to get the same amount of money. Worse yet: People who didn't vote AND those who voted democrat get this money as well!!!! This is free money, handed out equally and (nearly) unconditionally among US citizens. Do you know the proper term for this? IT'S SOCIALISM!!!! You're right, Donald Trump is enticing you to vote for him with COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA. You hate communism, don't you? You don't want lazy bastards to get money for doing nothing! The path forward is clear: If you hate black people, if you hate communism, and if you want America to REMAIN GREAT you must vote democrat or the communist devil will get you

That lesbian you see walking her dog. You know the one with colored hair and a nose ring.

oh golly.

We can't have her getting 5k!

-- Honestly, i'm sure they believe that only the people who voted red will get the money.

Somehow. Trump with his god powers will know who deserves it.

If only logic worked on the mad

[-] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Man when are some of y'all going to learn that things like hypocrisy and logic and reason don't work on maga? Or conserves in general really.

At the risk of being "that guy"...

Cash handouts are not socialism.

I realize what community this is, but... there is so much noise in this conversation, I think it's a bad idea for those of you who support actual socialism (or socialist ideas) to add to the noise by stooping to the colloquial misunderstanding.

A cash payout from a capitalist republic government like the US is at most a tax rebate.

[-] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 20 points 2 days ago

Well yeah but it's a slippery slope from here. For now it's just a one-time handout and I agree that THAT isn't socialism. But what happens in 2 years when Trump doesn't just need to win the midterms but the full-fledged election? Is he gonna promise UBI? Healthcare for all? Who knows what other crazy socialist ideas that man has floating in his brain.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 4 points 2 days ago

What is actually socialism is the Trump administration taking a share of Intel stock. Funny how state-owned industry is just "good business" but funding public transit and healthcare is "evil socialism".

It's blatant corruption and illegal in all functioning democracies. Not saying you don't have a point, but your point I believe is incomplete without this as a disclaimer.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 1 points 2 days ago

A tax rebate in itself isn't necessarily illegal, but yes in this context offering it as a bribe to influence voting is illegal.

[-] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Interestingly, r/Conservative was mad about this stupid idea too.

Maybe but the bots are mad at Trump now too.

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago

Yep, Trump just created the Socialist Republicans to combat the Socialist Democrats...

Except that Trump always lies, but well, MAGA always believes...

"Better Dead Than Red" but the "red" is Republican AND Communist

[-] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago

Do you think the Republican base thinks about this so seriously? There are two options:

  • I have always been a Republican
  • I hate brown people

That is their constituency.

The only way for them to recognize there is a problem is when a family member or them are detained by ICE or brutalized by police. Even then it is a gamble if they just say "there are some bad apples".

Right-wingers are unable to consider societal problems and systemic oppression.

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago

There's a third option:

~ I think [am conditioned to believe] abortion-access is an abomination¹

Jerry Falwell discovered the single-issue voter in the 1970s, and was able to whip them up into a voting bloc to secure Reagan's victory in 1980.

¹ Except when I need an abortion, because there's nuance I can see.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I wouldn't even say he discovered them, I'd say he created them. Abortion was not an issue in America. Not until people like Falwell and his ilk conditioned them to be single issue voters on it. Protestants didn't care about abortion. Catholics did a bit, but Evangelical christians? Wasn't on their radar really.

I mean if it wasn't so fucking evil it would be impressive. The way these people completely altered the culture of a Nation. It's diabolical. It's also astounding. Never for the common good though is it? Nope.

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

So this is election interference right?

[-] jispal01@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

No. If he said that he would pay people money of his own, on the condition that they vote for his party - like Elon Musk did in Wisconsin in 2024 - then that would be election interference.

More candidates should be running on non-means-tested cash payments to all Americans - rather than just more tax breaks for rich people.

Most elected officials would argue that we can't make these kinds of cash payments to American taxpayers.

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It is the promise of cash in return for votes. It's bribery on its face, clear as day to any reasonable person.

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

That's where I stand. Dude isn't even in the election. I'm not even sure he knows that.

[-] OriginalTangle@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

You're saying this like it matters. Who's going to look into it, the justice department?

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It may not matter right this second. But it will.

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Winning argument. If you vote for Trump non-white citizens get $5000. They should put that stuff on billboards.

[-] 13igTyme@piefed.social 7 points 2 days ago

Except no one will ever see that $5k.

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

How could you doubt him.

It will be pretty sweet, after the other $5,000 check he promised for DOGE and $2,000 tariff dividend and then this $5,000, every person is going to have like $12,000 extra. I'm sure he would have already, but Biden is not letting him do it... I can't see any other explanation...

[-] pageflight@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Who's that creeping on Picard?

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 8 points 2 days ago

It's the Star Trek character named Q.

He's one of the most annoying yet necessary characters in the series.

People who don't like Star Trek are like "Nothing ever happens. They can just create anything they need in a replicator, teleport everywhere and shoot lasers to make things go away. All they do is talk."

Well, that's the fucking point, isn't it? The series investigates what issues are even worth thinking about once we rule out the ordinary troubles of violence, physical needs and money.

Q is the catalyst for some of those ethical and philosophical dilemmas. It's an interdimensional being that transcends both space and time. Not exactly a god, but just a being from a higher plane of existence. He likes to play around with Picard the same way that the cartoonist of La Linea (the line guy) plays around with his 2d drawing.

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

His husband.

[-] PacketPilgrim@thelemmy.club 0 points 1 day ago

I'm registered Republican, even I see what is wrong in this. I'm a Libertarian at heart but that party can't figure it out. I will be sitting out the midterms.
