!politics does have 1/3 as many subscribers, but the people that are subscribed there are more likely to be looking for political discussion.
I try not to be too picky about where people put posts, if you think it's more appropriate in !newzealand then perhaps that's ok. But you might miss the audience you're aiming for, it's hard to know.
