They're going to be real surprised when they find out how many of us are also armed.

[-] zeroday@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 23 hours ago

In my experience a lot of lefty folks have armed up over the last 4 years. Especially in the trans community

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 2 points 21 hours ago

Come on. Any of the US “left” that hasn’t already started fighting back isn’t going to.

Unless, what, you’re waiting for the fascists to cross some imaginary red line they haven’t already crossed? If that’s the case, where is that line? Be specific.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 hours ago

The line is and always has been disrupting the food supply. Man bread sure is expensive these days.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 4 points 19 hours ago

What do you expect me to do? Knock on my neighbor's door and shoot him?

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

I mean, if you think it’s a one-person job I’m not sure what to tell you.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Okay. What then? We've already been labeled as terrorists by the current administration. Say we start organizing militias and all that. How long do you think it'll take before the ATF shows up Waco style to put it down? As if they're aren't flock cameras everywhere already. Have you even thought about it?

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago

We've already been labeled as terrorists by the current administration.

That definately sounds like a fucking problem, anything being done about it?

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago

What do you expect me to do in fucking Missouri?

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

In the post you replied to I:

  1. agreed something is bad

  2. asked if there was a response to bad thing happening

You are being aggressive about the simple statement "yes, this is bad. Bad things don't get better if nothing happens about it."

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

So you don't have any suggestions. It's almost like you can nearly grasp the problem and are purposefully ignoring it so you can feel some sort of misplaced superiority

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 hour ago

Trying to gather information by asking "is anything being done" obligates me to spoon feed you a solution?

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

I asked you what you expected me to do and so far you haven't suggested anything.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 0 points 59 minutes ago

I just asked if something was being done and the answer seems to be "nothing".

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 46 minutes ago

I just asked what we should do and the answer seems to be "nothing".

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

It’s absolutely wild how you cowards keep spouting the same tired excuses as if they haven’t been addressed literally every time they’re brought up. Fine, don’t fight. Enjoy MAGA. You’ll get whatever you deserve.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Coward? Fuck off, keyboard warrior. You don't have the first clue what you're talking about. Where do you even live? What do you even do besides playing the tough guy on the Internet?

Edit: This you?

I left in 2004 because of how bad things were getting- a decision that has been continually justified every day since.

Real cowards run away.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago

Real heroes keep their head down and do nothing apparently...

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Oh, look. Another idiot here to shit talk because he hasn't thought about what it is he expects us to do. Got a suggestion, or are you just here to play tough guy behind the anonymity of the Internet?

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

Oh look, another American that wants to spend their time coming up with excuses for doing nothing rather than actually doing anything.

I'd rather someone fucking leave then just keeping their head down and doing nothing like this is normal.

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Leaving costs money most don't have. Believe me, if could get a job in Canada and move there I would.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 30 minutes ago

Sure, but you're not calling someone a coward for leaving. I'm saying somebody leaving is at least something, and something is better than nothing.

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

I wouldn't call someone a coward for keeping their head down if they're stuck here either.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 hour ago

No suggestions, no surprise. Only shit talk, also no surprise.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 hour ago

The same fucking playbook every time:

  1. can't somebody else do it? ("Why don't you come here and do something?")

  2. we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas ("what's your suggestion" instead of trying to come up with an idea on your own)

  3. endless excuses to not even try any suggestion provided.

No surprise.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

can't somebody else do it?

Do what?

we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas

I asked what you expected me to do. You've suggested nothing.

endless excuses to not even try any suggestion provided

No suggestions have been provided

No surprise.

Repeating after me doesn't equal a point.

I'm starting to think that you haven't thought about it at all.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 37 minutes ago* (last edited 36 minutes ago)

No suggestions have been provided

That's because pointing out the hollowness of you asking for suggestions is more effective if I point out the playbook before you give all your excuses. Here are some simple suggestions for you:

  1. Move. The thing you insulted another poster for.

The excuse: moving is expensive.

So is dying. They're literally saying they want to kill you. Every refugee ever has managed it with fewer resources and more obstacles than you have.

  1. Protest. Like actually protest. Not this "one Saturday every 6 months we go to our designated out of the way protest space so as to not cause too much trouble, then clean up after ourselves and get back to work on Monday." Actual portests are disruptive.

The excuse: AmErIcA iS tOo bIg

BLM managed it after the death of one person. How many people have ICE murdered without consequence?

  1. Get involved in politics. Find a politician that opposes this shit and join their team. If no such politician exists become the politician and build a team.

The excuse: that's hard

Oh, you wanted suggestions that wouldn't require any effort?

Now go ahead with your excuses and prove that giving you these suggestions was a waste of time.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -1 points 5 hours ago

Not a citizen, not my country. Lived there 8 years. Not sure why I’m explaining this to overly-defensive American MAGA-lite garbage, though.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

"MAGA-lite"

If you were smart enough to know how dumb you are you'd be embarrassed.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -2 points 5 hours ago

Imagine if all Lemmy shitlibs could actually turn some of this impotent rage against, you know, the Nazis, instead of the people pointing out that they’re doing fuck all about the Nazis

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

If their rage is impotent, the Nazi's with the the money, political power, and monopoly on violence would turn them into paste, no?

Do you think "shitlibs" would win a fight with them? Or do you just want the Nazi's to have an excuse to kill all of them because you hate them as much as the Nazis? Because it often just kind of feels like the latter with this kind of discussion.

No one owes the world to give up their life, no one chose to be here. One especially does not owe their life to people who explicitly did not even try to prevent the mess we're in in the first place: the average US voting eligible person.

Why should anyone lift a fucking finger to help my fellow Americans by risking their life if they're on average a bunch of selfish negligently-ignorant-at-best dipshits that let Trump win? Fuck 'em.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

Imagine if ignorant foreigners could pull their heads out of their asses long enough to consider what it is they're demanding.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -1 points 5 hours ago

You’re all just reading from the same script at this point. Boring. Blocked.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip -1 points 5 hours ago

I'll say it again, if you were smart enough to know how dumb you are you'd be embarrassed.

[-] stoicmaverick@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

As a gun owner and former small arms instructor, like... I'm happy, but I also feel like I got isekai'ed when I see fellow left sided folks imply that privately owned guns aren't basically the equivalent of the One Ring. They are simply a tool which bestows the ABILITY to use violence at a distance. What you choose to do with that ability is entirely up to the holder. A sword can be used as a shield as well, but a shield cannot be used as a sword if needed

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 3 points 23 hours ago

Maybe not a sword, but shields can have spikes and sharp edges. Even as a blunt instrument a shield is a weapon not just a defense.

[-] stoicmaverick@lemmy.world 0 points 22 hours ago

I'm going to press x on that one. What you say is true to an extent, but you would never grab a particularly pointy shield as your only weapon if you had to go on an offensive. Those things make it more effective from a defensive standpoint, but if I had to get into a fight I would choose a knife over any shield you could show me if I could only pick one, especially if I knew my opponent was going to also have an offensive weapon.

[-] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Really? You would pick a knife over a large blunt sheet strapped to your arm that can both block and bludegeon your opponent? Disregarding any sharp edges or spikes, a large shield can easily break bones if swung at someone.

In a knife vs. shield fight, the shield is an easy victor.

[-] stoicmaverick@lemmy.world 1 points 28 minutes ago

My original analogy is breaking down pretty fast here. I was trying to make the point that a purely defensive stance has to work 100% of the time, while an offensive weapon can serve both purposes to an extent. If I had known it was going to go this direction, I would have used the example of a Kevlar vest.

To answer your question though, 100% maybe. If my option was a butter knife. No. If we're talking about it decent 12 in knife or claymore or similar. Yes I would. If the flight is that dire, you can take a hard hit with a shield a couple of times, perhaps even a bone breaking one to an arm, and keep moving at a reduced capacity. As long as you can reach around one time and put the blade between their ribs while they're swinging a heavy shield, the fight is over. The point I'm trying to make, is that defense has to work 100% of the time, while offense only has to work once to do their respective jobs.

It's more like a Swiss army knife. It has a lantern in it as well.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I've never been on the "ban all guns" side of the argument. I've had access to them since I was 10 and was a line coach when I was in the Navy. I'm just glad to see some of us on the left start to get it.

[-] stoicmaverick@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Navy as well. Was an FC, but got sent to Sami school because our SecO didn't trust any of the GMs to run his armory. lol. That was a fun cruise.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 15 hours ago

I was an stg, but because of "optimal manning" live fire exercises were made up of people throughout weapons dept.
