I just picked up on their ferocious rhetoric, and insanity in the discussion in election time. And found them quite level headed afterward. Even arguing the opposite way from what they did before for instance concerning Trump.
That behavior strikes me as curious, it could be gained insight or something malignant, I'm undecided.
The reason the discourse was more focused on Harris is because virtually everyone on the fediverse is already on the same page about hating Trump, while there's disagreement about Harris. Nobody on here argued for voting Trump, unless a lost conservative wandered in in which case they were downvoted to hell and criticized by everyone.
If you were actually any of those things you would have voted for the candidate that lead to less genocide, less empire and less war.
I hated Kamala too for all the reasons you listed, but I held my fucking nose and voted for her anyway because I knew any conservative was going to be worse in all those categories and Kamala had the only chance of beating him.
Not voting was the pro-genocide vote. There would be less people dead and less people in fucking concentration camps if Kamala had won.
If you were actually any of those things you would have voted for the candidate that lead to less genocide, less empire and less war.
I did vote for that candidate.
Not voting was the pro-genocide vote.
No, it was the "genocide is fine, I don't care" choice. Voting for Kamala was the pro-genocide choice. She was very clear about that.
There would be less people dead and less people in fucking concentration camps if Kamala had won.
Citation needed. She fully supported Biden when he was bombing kids, and sending immigrants to torture camps. She also said Trump was too soft on Iran.
Plenty of morons on this website who still think like this. Willing to watch their country turn into a fascist dictatorship to own the libs (only more communist than most Americans are doing it)
I really do wonder if any of those abstainers even understand how fucking stupid they are, two years into this shit storm.
Not that it matters, it all feels inevitable, the demos would just sell out their country too, just quieter, as loud ass idiots pull tantrums until their party is in and do this wrecking ball shit anyway. At least this way has kicked people in the ass about the state of the world, if we make it out the other end without too much injury, it might just be a better world...
The ml folk are absolutists when it comes to compromise, I admire the conviction, but the rubber doesn't quite hit the road of reality when you look at the big picture, it's fine, maybe I'm the wrong one
For us to be "absolutists" about compromise, we would first have to be offered a compromise. A compromise implies actually getting something that you want. We were given nothing, not listened to, no dialogue whatsoever, treated with contempt, not even purely symbolic gestures like allowing a Palestinian speaker at the convention. Meanwhile the Biden administration bypassed congress in order to flood Israel with weapons, while Harris did nothing to indicate she would act differently. To go along with that would not be a compromise, but total capitulation on everything we stand for, in exchange for nothing. That we are absolutely opposed to.
There may be some people who are absolutists regarding compromise, but all I can say is that those people haven't actually read theory. Even Lenin himself was highly critical of the position of "no compromises," but while making the distinction between compromise and capitulation.
But there isn't really a debate to be had about whether a compromise would have been acceptable in that situation because no compromise was ever offered to us for us to reject. Get them to give us an olive branch first, and if we reject it then you can accuse us of being absolutists.
Funny, bcs it's the Dems who are the absolutists on compromise. Never compromise with their own left flank, but compromise with fascists even when they could get everything they want without compromise.
Trust me, I get what you mean, I'm right there with you, but we're clearly not living in the world in which everything works just perfectly. I don't want genocide any more than anyone else here, I don't want compromise on it either, but if we wait around for the perfect world we aren't working towards a better one right now.
Why are you throwing around the word "compromise" when neither the reactionaries nor the market liberals will compromise on anything they want? I cannot name one thing that either the elephants or donkeys have done that has moved the US even closer to the center of the political spectrum in the past 50 years.
Not wrong, but I somehow doubt they would have tried close to half the shit that this current admin is doing, but as far as controlled opposition and hand sitting goes, they've been doing just fine at that too, so certainly complicit at the very least
Ok, so get the leaders of your party to do that compromise with their own base (actually working towards a better world) instead of expecting all the people who really are working towards a better world to constantly compromise with the greed ghouls who want to burn fossil fuels and fuck children until the planet can't support life any more.
You're mistaking me for someone who is a democrat, I'm not even American. All I'm saying is that despite the fact that we shouldn't put people who support genocide in power, it seems as if they got someone in power who not only supports genocide, but has created such a fucking mess of everything else as well.
The only good thing to come out of this is shocking people out of apathy, that's one part of the equation. The other is people who don't want a compromise, and fwiw, that's the kind of people who are going to steer any hope of bringing this ship around to sanity, status quo brought these circumstances in the first place. So keep fighting the good fight, you're not wrong to want a perfect world.
Funny that I don’t see any of you ml users making a huge deal about the number of deaths resulting from the USAid funding, which by many estimates, is 5-10x those in Gaza.no chance that Harris would have cut that funding.
Almost as if your arguments aren’t genuine.
Besides, I doubt you can even vote in the US elections.
Funny that I don’t see any of you ml users making a huge deal about the number of deaths resulting from the USAid funding...
Funny that I don't see any of you world users making a huge deal about the number of deaths resulting from Democrats bombing kids, or supporting dictators, sending people to torture prisons.
Yeah, isn't it terrible that people accurately point out when both sides keep pushing shit candidates and shit policies? If only there was some way to stop that.
Tell me, how have any of those things you mentioned improved with Trump?
They haven't at all. I'm not sure why Libs keep asking me this, since I've never once claimed that they would be better under Trump. I love that Libs keep accusing me of things that I've never said, or claimed, because they can't actually defend the awful decisions that their party makes.
Funny that new users jump on with these naive bullshit takes, like somehow voting for Jesus Christ himself in November 2022 was an option.
Yeah, isn't it weird that people new people arrive and sign up to a system that lets them join? Crazy.
I also find it funny that, when we were pointing out that the Dems were going to lose to Trump by running such shit-tier candidates, and shit-tier policies, we were told that the only reason we thought that, was because we were Russian assets.
Of course, genocide being unpopular, or Biden being a terrible President and candidate, or the Dems sticking with unpopular policies, and screwing over their voting base aren't to blame. It's the people who thought bombing kids is bad, or genocide is bad, or that torture is bad who are really to blame.
Not sure what USAID has to do at all with this conversation, but I'll entertain it.
Leftists reject the notion that USAID is simply a wholesome charity. It was the US arm of soft power, and it was an imperialist institution. If you are truly interested in this "disingenuous" take, see the Jacobin article on it.
It tied aid to the adoption of neoliberal policies, privatization, and the opening of markets to US corporations. A striking example is the case of Haiti, where USAID pushed for trade liberalization and other neoliberal policies in the 1980s, leading to the collapse of domestic rice production in favor of cheap, subsidized imports in the 1990s. The result was devastating: Haiti became dependent on foreign aid for basic food security, its agricultural sector gutted to serve US agribusiness interests.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a compliment.
You are the version of LeopardsAteMyFace that knew they were going to eat your face. But you were like, nah, I'm going to hug it anyway because your shoes are made with real leather.
If you can't see the difference, I don't know what to tell you, but no, they certainly aren't great either, the whole thing needs to be scrapped for there to be a true democratic future
Who said that I couldn't see the difference? I certainly never did.
One of them gleefully bombs kids, supports rapists, tortures people, and arrests people for calling out those things. The other pretends that they think those things are bad, and pretends that they can't do anything to stop it.
Enjoy voting for Dem candidate Ted Cruz as he takes on Republican candidate mecha hitler in 2030. And then still punching left as you flail to try and understand your descent into fascism.
Also she wasn't pro palestine enough. I wonder how they're doing.
I have some people tagged that were ferocious anti kamala, that are now criticizing Trump.
And seeming pretty reasonable whilst doing so.
I don't understand those people
They're both pretty awful, it's not that difficult to understand. Criticism of one is not praise for the other.
Was there anyone on here who was ferociously anti Kamala who wasn't also anti Trump to begin with?
Not in the cases i'm on about, but sure.

You don't understand how someone could be anti-genocide, or anti-empire, or anti-war no matter which candidate is pushing it?
I don't see how it's that hard, if you have principles that transcend parties.

Teaching dems a lesson by not voting sure paid off
Who said they were teaching Dems a lesson?
That would imply they thought the Dems didn't know why they lost, which seems pretty silly since it was quite obvious.
Plenty of morons on this website who still think like this. Willing to watch their country turn into a fascist dictatorship to own the libs (only more communist than most Americans are doing it)
But surely it'll work out in the end, because their specific ideology will be what will rise from the ashes, right?
She wasn't? I wonder why?
https://nitter.kareem.one/TrackAIPAC/status/1883743688628773090
I wonder how people defending genocide are doing.
Oh we already know, considering history, that you'd be perfectly fine with it. So there's that.
What is it that you think you have accomplished by doing literally nothing?
I really do wonder if any of those abstainers even understand how fucking stupid they are, two years into this shit storm.
Not that it matters, it all feels inevitable, the demos would just sell out their country too, just quieter, as loud ass idiots pull tantrums until their party is in and do this wrecking ball shit anyway. At least this way has kicked people in the ass about the state of the world, if we make it out the other end without too much injury, it might just be a better world...
The abstainers still feel every bit as smug as the 3rd party vote wasters.
No doubt, and I'm sure all of this is very vindicating for them.
Sigh
Well it looked like one of 'em downvoted you before I saw your response. So there you have it.
The ml folk are absolutists when it comes to compromise, I admire the conviction, but the rubber doesn't quite hit the road of reality when you look at the big picture, it's fine, maybe I'm the wrong one

Why would you doubt that, when we saw them do it under Biden and Obama. Harris also made it clear that she would follow in Biden's footsteps.
Ok, so get the leaders of your party to do that compromise with their own base (actually working towards a better world) instead of expecting all the people who really are working towards a better world to constantly compromise with the greed ghouls who want to burn fossil fuels and fuck children until the planet can't support life any more.

It's funny because they are like, a living museum exhibit of why communism turns out the way it so often does.
Yep, and we'll do it again unless you answer to our demands of not pushing a genocider. Best of luck.
Funny that I don’t see any of you ml users making a huge deal about the number of deaths resulting from the USAid funding, which by many estimates, is 5-10x those in Gaza.no chance that Harris would have cut that funding.

Nice cherry picking,
You sailed right past that same article's agreement that the sudden cease in funding will harm millions.
Both points can be true, but your disingenuous quotation highlights your own insincerity in an honest dialogue.
Good fucken lord man, do you only speak in reddit-ass catchphrases? Learn new phrases.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a compliment.
You are the version of LeopardsAteMyFace that knew they were going to eat your face. But you were like, nah, I'm going to hug it anyway because your shoes are made with real leather.
Yes, I don't want them either, but the alternative appears to be genocide, plus a bunch of other bullshit
Thats all the Democrats had to offer as well.
If you can't see the difference, I don't know what to tell you, but no, they certainly aren't great either, the whole thing needs to be scrapped for there to be a true democratic future

No argument here for sure. It was going to all come to this one way or another with them
Enjoy voting for Dem candidate Ted Cruz as he takes on Republican candidate mecha hitler in 2030. And then still punching left as you flail to try and understand your descent into fascism.
Don't tell us, tell the Palestinians
