...approved? You've got to be fucking joking. If your protest is "approved" by the corrupt government you're protesting, then you might as well stay home.
I obviously don't disagree. I don't think it's weird to report on peaceful protests that are undemocratically banned; I think it's weird to separately report on the police doing normal police shit that happens when someone gets arrested.
"84 year old priest has house searched by police" is newsworthy if the priest didn't do anything illegal. It's not newsworthy if they did.
"Some people did something illegal which should not be illegal" is newsworthy, but that's not the content of the article.
It's reporting that's just trying to play on the emotions of the readers.
Why is it reasonable to go from "person participated in illegal protest" (which is NOT some extreme protest for an illegal topic), to "we're going to raid their residence"?
How is that relevant to the act of attending a protest? Fine or jail the person as prescribed by the (inane) law and move on, searching their home is overreach.
It's not reasonable if that's all you know about them. But there are lots of situations I can think of where it would be reasonable (no less reasonable than the initial arrest, anyway)
What if the illegality is newsworthy?
It is, of course. But thats a different article.
