IMHO Frank Herbert's prediction in Dune is more apt.

Humanity stagnated due to its dependency on thinking machines, almost to humanities demise leading to the Butlerian Jihad and the Great Convention: thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of the human mind.

That's what we're facing today: societal cognitive stagnation from outsourcing our reasoning to auto-correct.

I've been thinking about this quote from God Emperor of Dune a lot lately:

"What do such machines really do? They increase the number of things we can do without thinking. Things we do without thinking - there's the real danger."
