US chicken companies pioneered restricting sleep to keep birds eating around the clock.

A new study (Li et al., 2026) recommends giving chickens just 2 hours of darkness nightly to maximize the time they spend eating. The study and photo are Chinese.

We know chickens have far better hapiness with 7โ€“8 hours of darkness to sleep.

But they eat more and grow faster when they are sleep deprived.

Shit like this is why I'm trying to plan my path to vegetarian and then to veganism. I hate that I know I'll relapse if I don't do it slowly.

I fully cut meat out of my diet two months ago. I get cravings, but the idea of meat is so morally repugnant to me now that I can hardly even handle seeing friends casually consume it. It really sucks because I know nobody will understand if I start talking about it and I'm kinda forced to be alone with these feelings :(

As an athletic dude, I wish it were simpler to get a balanced lean-protein diet without meat. I do whey protein or canned fish/shellfish for most of my meals, and that has been working well for me. Kinda boring eating the same shit every day, but it works pretty well.

If watching characters work through allegorically similar problems helps, Ravenous is sort of what I imagine that feeling can be like.

Which one? I'm seeing a couple different movies with that title.

If you want to really see horror, you can watch the film "Earthlings".

Thank you for the recommendation but I'm already quite convinced how horrific it is!
